BTW I also posted this on the Texas forum because people there ask about moving to CA from time to time. It really helps to be informed even if you might not have experience and wisdom on your side, try it.

Many of my relatives moved from The Bay Area to Houston. I wouldnt live there but I certainly dont blame them.
$635,000 for this house in East Oakland
$254,000 in suburban Houston(this would cost $5 Million in Oakland)

I could not live in Houston, it's too big for me. We moved to a small town, about 35,000, just outside the DFW Metroplex area. My house would easily cost 2 million+ in OC. The weather is different but the quality of life is much better. It is not for everyone but we like it. We loved CA but it was time to move on.

What's funny is a guy who moved to podunk TX and now spends his day educating Californians.
Looks like even at your low prices, folks are losing their homes, causing prices to plummet all over Texas.

STORY: Home prices: 'Things look bleak'
ROCKWALL COUNTY — Thousands of homeowners in North Texas have lost their homes to foreclosure. In Dallas County, more than 18,000 foreclosures are on the market.
Nearly 14,000 foreclosures are posted in Tarrant County.
A growing number of homeowners in Rockwall County have recently received a visit from Constable John Cullins — foreclosure's "grim reaper."
I'd sure hate to move ANYWHERE and instantly start losing equity.
I think I'm getting the picture.
