huntington beach is a very nice beach town. don't listen to what those negative posters are writing. they just try to disrupt the forum's flow. i suggest looking for a bartending gig part-time if you are off for the summer from teaching. of course there is retail, but with the terrible econonomy right now, people are spending less at the malls and spending more time in the bars lol. good luck! if you have any other questions feel free to message me, im a 27 yr old single guy, been in orange county for a year now, moved from east coast last yr.

Dakicka, thank you for the post. I appreciate a positive response! Especially from someone about my age and single like myself. I too really like the area, and again I'm just looking for a cool place to spend my summer and get out of the humid midwest for a couple months.
I have been told from others to look into bartending and I appreciate the tip. However I don't spend a lot of time in bars and I think I'll probably look into something else even though I won't make as much money.
I just wonder how much retail would even pay? I've seen many restraunts that need waiters but I don't think I'd get hired because I have no experience in the food industry. Who knows?
Anyways, does anybody happen to know anyone who works at the Hyatt Regency? I know it's probably a long shot, but that is where I have stayed the past three summer during my stay in HB and I definitely wouldn't mind working there, especially by the pool during the days! What an awesome place!
Thanks again everyone for your comments and suggestions and thanks again Dakicka for you're help, take care!

Huntington is a great beach city & you'll have a blast there. Check out craig's list postings for rooms for rent. With the skyhigh housing prices, Lots of folks rent out rooms in their houses. Lots of places in downtown Huntington, Balboa and on the Newport pennisula have small studios they rent out and plenty of people need roomates.
As for finding a job, if you are looking for something to throw off a little cash while you are here as opposed to a solid living wage, you'll have no issues. Its hard to get by on services wages in OC, so there is a big demand for workers -waiters, waitresses, barhelp, retail, etc. in the area.
Good luck & enjoy the beach!

I guess my main concerns are finding somewhere affordable to live just for the summer, that is close to the beach. I'm sure I would need a roommate, any good websites to find roommates? I would also need to get a summer job, are good summer jobs hard to find in Huntington?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The entire Orange County coastal region is overpriced. But Huntington and Newport are soooo exremely boring and 'dead' places to live in. In Newport you basically have the rich geratrics who have home help, so you never really meet people except the cleaning lady or gardener. In Huntington its full of tatoo-covered, ugly crime looking people (you know, the new 'fashion') and there's a lot of drugs. Beaches are gorgeous and shopping is very close - but its boring.

Huntington Beach is full of drugs? Where? When I visited it seemed pretty clean cut to me. They dealing crack by the harbor? Meth downtown? Coke in Central Park? I just can't picture this...
