How is Orange County on CCW's?
Hi residents,
I'm not planning a move anytime soon, but I like to collect information on places I have in mind. I have heard that it is not as difficult to get CCW's in Orange County as it is in cities like Los Angeles or San Francisco. I'm a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights, so I feel like any place I would even like to possibly call home one day should support those rights. How strict are they? What is the age requirement (I will be 18 when I move.)?

Haaziq,
Here's a quote regarding Orange County: " Population 2,939,500, under Sheriff Michael Carona, 1287 permits, 0.044% issuance. OC is the most favorable large urban county in California. We encourage you to apply. Sheriff Carona is the model all other urban sheriffs in CA should follow."
I pulled this directly from California Concealed Carry (CCW) They'll probably give you better info than what you'll find on this forum. For the record, it's always refreshing to me to hear that someone your age has not fallen victim to the general hysteria and fear of guns promoted by mainstream media. In light of the constitution, I think it's sad that anyone should have to inquire about what municipality will allow a person to invoke his rights - but that's what this country has devolved to (and yes, I'm aware that I've ended a sentence with a preposition).
Best of luck to you with your move. May I suggest that perhaps your beliefs will be more at home in far-Northern California?

Well, the Bay Area was appealing, but their gun laws were ridiculous. I'm a Libertarian, and I've heard that Orange Counts has a large population of them.

Don't you think you should mention That sheriff in the past tense? He was handing out permits left and right-but to his buddies. I don't think the present acting sheriff or his replacement will be quite that generous

If you live in Orange County, you can get a CCW fairly easily. Let me know when you move there and I can help you.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have another question. Are the CCW's issued in Orange County valid throughout the entire state of California or just the county?

So it's even recognized in gun-opposing San Francisco?

Thanks for the info.
I live in Indiana right now. My parents live here as well. At least I'll be able to come back to visit and still carry.
By the way, doesn't Arizona accept almost all CCW's? From what I've heard from someone who attends college down there, their gun laws are very loose.
