For the record anyone who did actually give me thoughtful, helpful answers i really do appreciate it, despite the negativity i encountered from a few people on here. I'm glad some people are here for the right reasons, thank you. This thread is obviously old and i made a new one recently that reflects my plans more accurately now. I wrote this one awhile ago, many people responded and was helpful, and i've learned a lot since then. I would close this thread if i could, but i do not know how to. I don't need anymore advice concerning my plans on this thread. Sorry for anyone who did read my angry rants to those really rude people. But I don't feel like they should be acting that way to me or anyone else on here. I have seen other people on here deal with the same things and it sucks everyone doesn't genuinely want to help each other, but i guess thats life. And if anyone did take the time to read them and you can understand why i was upset, thank u. I think i have a legitiamate reason to get defensive. I asked for some advice not for mean spirited responses. I posted it thinking it was a supportive community. Thankfully theres usually more good people than not. Happy traveling to everyone!

I will admit that your proposition is something of a tall order, but I think you can make it happen, particularly if you are willing to have a roommate. I live in the wonderful little beach town of San Clemente, and I rent a place for $1050. Due to the housing situation rents run high everywhere, but you can probably swing it with a roomie. Heck, my place will be available at the end of the month because I have accepted a teaching job in northeastern Nevada--whoa, I'm getting ready for some culture shock, and I'm going to miss it here so much, but it's all good. Life is a journey...all about gaining life experience, as that truly is what shapes us. Get out of your comfort zone and grow. Well, that's my approach, anyway.

In the words of Joseph Campbell: "Follow your bliss." Good luck, and do your research. These boards are good, but not necessarily the final word.
Now thats a positive post! hehe Thanks! I appreciate the positivity and support!! I really am not a jerk, i'm just sensitive. lol I'm too verbal about it i suppose. It's a game maybe to the downers and ego maniacs...to see who can get her going next...lol Anyway thanks for the good vibes! San Clemente, i haven't heard too much about it, that we'll be my next city i'll read up on! Thanks for the input!!

Yeah i have actually considered Laguna, and i really did like it, but not sure i want to live there, leaning more towards SM or considering Belmont shore in Long Beach, but we'll see, i'm keeping my options open. It's definitely nice there for sure! I have been to Laguna and LB, but not SM, so just depends on job location at this point really. I want to make a visit to SM in the near future hopefully. Thanks so much!

Smile Pessimists in CA

I think, Aimee, you're catching some of the intense cynicism that so characterizes SoCal nowadays.
You might have to get used to it if you live in these areas which are adjacent to urban areas. Also, if you do any kind of modelling and acting, the biz can be unrelentingly cruel.
I suggest you immediately go out and rent the film Ellie Parker (starring Naomi Watts). It's about a young woman pursuing her acting dreams in L.A.

What people expect, the "dream" and what they see can be quite different.
And, before you consider Laguna Beach, read the post "Chock full o' vermin and cockroaches" on these forums. I thought it was a gross exaggeration. I've visited over the years and seen a few bugs, but sure enough, this past week I was there walking at night after a nice dinner and....lots of HUGE cockroach swarms... and a giant rat crossed our path in the back of a restaurant alley.
Coastal towns are like Pirates of the Caribbean, pricey, bawdy, sleepy, speculative, and not too clean.
Also read Orange Coast mag this month about the guys who founded Quicksilver, Volcom, Hurley (and linked with Billabong Aussies). They invented a way to market the lifestyle of the California Dream.
Good luck1

Sorry, Aimee, but I'm out of here. I have to report for my new teaching job in Elko County, Nevada in two weeks. Oh well, good luck with your move!

Hey calidude, I agree with you except about HB. My brother and his wife live there, and you don't even see the ocean, unless you go to the beach. One of my favorite things about San Clemente, Dana Point, etc. is the sweeping views of the ocean. Maybe it's just me, but I love seeing the ocean every day. Definitely going to miss that.
