It's sites like these that attract people who are generally not happy where they are and are looking for somewhere different. So, this isn't a representative sample of people living in SoCal. This site is disproportionately comprised of people looking to find the greener side of the pasture, regardless of where they are presently living.

It's true there is no perfect beach town in California. In fact, there is no perfect town ANYWHERE. I'd suggest we have a few here that are closer to perfect than just about anywhere else in any other place. But, none are perfect. And all are expensive, very true.

My problem with your posts is you are suggesting you are speaking the truth. Often, you are not. You're speaking your opinion. That's fine. Just please don't overlap opinion with the "truth". To suggest she couldn't afford to live in a premier beach town in SoCal for $900 a month in rent is neither fact nor opinion. It is simply wrong. It does come with the caveat that she have at least one roommate. Which can be either good or bad. Often, when moving to a new place, having a roommate is good thing. It can be someone who can become something of a friend who can show you around and introduce you to people.

Or it can be someone who doesn't pay their portion of the bills, doesn't pick up after themselves, leaves their clothes in the washer and dryer when you need to use it or steals your boyfriend? Once again you are looking at this unrealistically.

Just pleeeease do me a favor? Quite trying to paint such a rosey picture of the area. Personally when I look for a place to move I want the whole truth and nothing but the truth not some one sided perspective of what may or could happen.

You may be right in what may happen... but you also may be wrong and you are a little on the unrealistic side for me. I listened to a lot of stuff similar to what you are saying and it wasn't at all like that for me. Of Course I didn't have the internet to go to but I listened to people and watched too many movies. My room mates were more like what I listed above... Very hard to deal with. Maybe she will get lucky and IF she moves there I would wish her well

Definition of Truth according to the dictionary: The body of real things, events and facts..

According to the above definition I believe I have spoken the truth.. because I didn't lie about anything that I myself personally experienced. Therefore my statements have been truthful...

I don't know why you are having such an issue with my post and threads here?? Why don't you just let me speak my mind and stop trying to discredit what I have to say. If OC is so great you don't have anything to worry about right?

Just wondering???

PS. And OC is not closer to perfect than just about any place. And the greener side of the pasture?? Come on, there is mostly cement in OC. You can hardly find a patch of green grass anywhere, there is cement everyplace you look.

I'm not attempting to paint a rosy picture of anything. I'm attempting to balance out an overly negative picture you're painting that is full of mischaracterization.

It is very true that we have a significant advantage now with the internet, cellphones etc. Without that technology, sure, one could end up in a bad place trying to move to a new place without knowing anybody. No question you were at a disadvantage. Thankfully, that's not the case anymore. With the internet, such a move-with a nice, safe landing-is very doable.

You've only been truthful in providing your opinions of your experience. Your opinions of your particular experience are just that. They are NOT the "truth about California" as the title of your thread says. They're not even the truth about Orange County. It's just your opinion. And it's based largely off of the handful of places you spent the majority of your time in. Had you spent the majority of your time in, say, Mission Viejo or Laguna Beach, you may see things differently.

Stop trying to lead people to believe you are giving them the "truth" when all you're giving is your opinion based on your own individual experiences. If you said "Here is my opinion based on my experiences in these particular places", I'd have never responded as I have. But, you've claimed what you're offering is the "truth", and the "truth" about all of California at that. That's why I'm responding as I am.

Default Skyward31 get out of the sky and back to earth!!!

Once again, go back and read my entire post!! I did say good things about the area and I mentioned them first.. Or did you skip over that part? I also said that if you have money OC is doable or did you not read any of my other posts on any of the other threads?

You make 50K a year... The majority of people in OC in the less desirable locations don't. So what about those people? Is it doable for them? No... it is miserable because they have to visit the beautiful areas and then go home to their cockroach ridden dumps or undesirable locations.

You are very narrow-minded Skyward. When I started the thread I started it because I was looking on the OC forum and I noticed a very deceptive one sided perspective of OC. I noticed beautiful pictures of Malibu and all the lovely places but at the time I didn't notice any threads regarding the other side of life in OC. There was only one other person (Killer2021) on the pic thread that made an observation.

Since a majority of people who come to this forum will not be making a lot of money I felt that I needed to tell them about my experience and that of many of the people who have responded to my post saying I was correct in my post. So how am I not being truthful?

Why don't you start a thread and title it "The truth about southern california from a current resident". We will then see how balanced your truthfulness is... Will you state the good and the bad also or not? Or maybe you just hide out in your nice apartment/home and never go anywhere.

And another thing, I didn't just visit or live in a handful of places. I have been to every city and spent a lot of time in many different areas in the OC area. I lived there for almost 20-years and I did socialize and participate in life in OC. Wow you make judgmental statements like you know me or something!!!

You are getting really an-- about this whole thing.. Calm down

Default Hermosa resident speaks of life in OC!!!

I noticed that you said on another post that you lived in Hermosa Beach? Why are you making comments on my thread regarding OC then? Have you ever lived in OC?? Just curious.

And another thing... I went back and re-read my post. Almost half of the post is about positive aspects of OC. You have an issue if you are looking at that post as negative instead of positive

Can't stand the truth or what Skyward? You remind me of someone on a debate team?

Why are you calling me names??

Anyway, to answer your question
1) I've lived in OC before and visit all the time
2) Most importantly, the title of your thread indicates you are spreading the truth about all of California. You are giving the impression that your observations/opinions pertain to all of California. The reality is they only pertain to one county and primarily average to below average portions of that county. Not the state as a whole. As a long-time resident of California, I take offense to that.

The cliff beach thing is very good but you also need people to balance things out.
When I first moved here I lived near Big Sur also very nice but it drove my kids mad they often asked me, why did you bring us to Mars? They are much happier in Malibu.
You may need plenty of $$$ to get here but there are plenty of retired or semi-retired people who live here. Personally I am prepared to exchange the property tax for the environment.
I always try to be an advocate for Malibu because I'm sure plenty of people out there who would be very happy here are put off by the hype generated by people who only day trip here.

Default The Truth about certain areas of Southern California for Skyward

I am not calling you names?? Where is that?? And guess what?? Somebody asked the moderator to change the name of the thread. It is supposed to be "Southern California" and the Southern was removed. So that is not my fault. And I mentioned OC as being the place that I was talking about. So once again I didn't and AM NOT saying that ALL of California is BAD. Please just re-read my thread. I have stated positive points and negative points.. And I did it because when I started the thread I noticed a lot of one-sided garbage going on. I have explained this over and over again yet you continue to get an idea that I am trying to destroy your habitat.. I don't do things like that. I realize that people are happy there, I realize that my experience is my own unlike no one elses experience. What I have tryed to do is balance out a very unbalanced post with facts about the area that were only part of the picture.

1) Over-crowding
2) bumper to bumper freeways
3) very expensive to live
4) racial tension
5) smog
6) earthquakes
7) cockroaches and weird bugs (typical of any mediteranian climate)
8) loose morality (in certain places)
9) cold beach water
10) grey sand
11) no pro football team (in OC or LA)

Should I continue? Now tell me that these things are not the truth.. That is why I named my thread the way I named it.

Why can't you just let this go. The more you respond to the thread the longer it will stay on the top of the forum. I just keep responding to the people who are making comments and asking questions And maybe you should ask the moderator why she/he changed the title if you aren't happy with it because I cannot change it... Sorry...
