2 Br Apartment in Irvine
Hi,
My friend and I are moving to Irvine (she is entering graduate school at UCI and I have a job offer there).
We have about $1500-$2000 to spend a month on a 2br apartment or townhouse. Is this possible? I would like to live close to campus, but not too close to roudy college kids. Any reccomendations?
Thank you in advance for your help!!

As far as I remember UCI has graduate student housing which is cheaper than private rentals. Not sure how it would work with you living there though.
Anyhow, IAC owns all the apartments in Irvine and they own apartments right by UCI. You can find all their listings at:
Rental-Living.com
Most of the complexes that end in "Court" are by the university, but there are a few others too I believe. Although you'll get a better apartment for the price if you live 1-2 miles away from the University. IAC is a bit overpriced (they have a monopoly in Irvine), but when I rented with them they were great. You can get a 2-bedroom from them under $2,000 though.
Unless you can confirm the owner's position in his/her property I would not rent from private owners right now. A lot of the failed housing gamblers are trying to rent out their properties only to foreclosure 6 months later.

thanks
thanks for the info. are there any apartment complexes you would recommend in costa mesa? I have heard that that is a nice area to live in. Again, I am trying to avoid building with lots of loud college students....

I lived in one of the apartments right by UCI and it wasn't loud at all. UCI's student body is 50%+ Asian and that changes the dynamic of the school.
Anyhow, I don't have any recommendations for Costa Mesa.

I'm currently a UCI undergrad student.. I lived in the Turtle Rock Vista apartments for awhile. I'd say that the rent is reasonable for the size of the place.. plus they've just recently renovated the apartments' interiors.
As for noise.. Two of my ex-roommates and I were playing mario kart on the gamecube one night and I guess we got a little into it because next thing we knew, we had a middle-aged Asian woman peering into my bedroom window and telling us to shut up. The following morning we also got a message from the rental office reprimanding us for being noisy and threatening to kick us out if there were any other complaints. That was like the third night that we'd been living in that apartment.
Also, kind of lame maybe.. but if you happen to have a facebook account you could check out the Marketplace application.
Hope that helps

Need a place to live still?
Hello,
My name is Kim. I saw your post and I was wondering if you still need a place to rent? I have a townhouse available. Please look at my ad at this website: Townhome For Rent in Orange-County - Irvine
Thanks,
Kim

There are all kinds of condos in the university town center area very close to UCI. It would not be difficult to find a place in the 1600-1800 range in that area.

We lived in grad student housing for the past 6 years...Palo Verde is the new housing, Verano is older...you could live there but not legally (you wouldnt be on the lease but you could still do it with another roomate assigned). There is a complex right next to UCI that is actually on UCI property but is privately run, they do not allow families there and you would both be able to live there (nice benefit is these have AC where the on campus housing does NOT)...also washer and dryer...look up Vista Del Campo UC Irvine Student Housing - Vista del Campo - Home
