Hello, I am graduating this year and I am considering attending Fullerton College. I've lived in California most of my childhood but have been out of the state for a couple of years and I don't exactly know what to expect when I go back. From what I remember Fullerton and Brea were pretty safe areas, but if I am going back I would REALLY like to know if anything had drastically changed over the past couple years, like if the crime rate is up or anything. I know some of the other areas are having problems with illegal immigrants and such, and if you can help me out by giving me safe areas or advice about Fullerton, Brea, and/or the surrounding areas, it would be much appreciated.

Both haven't changed too much in terms of safety... south of Chapman/Malvern in Fullerton is still below average too.

With the recent developments in downtown Fullerton I would say south of the train tracks in Fullerton may be considered below average, although it is still better than some areas of central OC.

The areas still seem pretty nice to me.

I just moved from fullerton a few months ago but i grew up there. it's a wonderful neighborhood, and if you're planning on going to school at FJC, i highly recommend some of the older apartments downtown. some of them are really, really neat ... there's a lot of 1920s architecture & brick buildings ... I've been over to some neat ones tucked away at lemon & harbor or commonwealth & lemon. the prices will be more affordable over in that direction than they will over in the sunny hills area, for instance, where there's also a lot of new apartments. and you will be really close to the school. plus, downtown is such a great, young environment.
good luck to you! and don't worry about safety. f-town is incredibly safe. even in some of its less fantastic neighborhoods (though, even its least desirable neighborhoods aren't that bad), I've always felt safe, respected, in my element, etc. all of my friends walked everywhere, even at night, regardless of the neighborhood. it's funny to hear people on this site be like, "oh this is a bad neighborhood" when i have friends who live there and have cute apartments and great neighbors. and then i hear other people say "amerige heights is 100% korean" when i grew up in that neighborhood & I'm not korean. honestly, some of the posts about fullerton just really ticked me off. I love the neighborhood I grew up in and feel fortunate to have been exposed to many different cultures from a young age, particularly such a prominent korean culture. i can't believe someone would even be angry about them supposedly "taking over" certain areas. i love amerige heights and areas with many korean businesses & now that i live in LA, i really want to move to koreatown just because it reminds me of my childhood, haha. but i'm not going to go on anymore of a tangent than i already have. i hope you enjoy fullerton it's a great place to live. |

Everything mytwohands said is true..! I live there for many years, still visit frequently, and it's a really great place to live.!
I enjoyed hands reference to FJC... Fullerton Jr College. The name was change to Fullerton College years back, but us old timers never like the name change. It's still FJC to us... Move there, enjoy life..... |

People who went to Fullerton high school were asked "what college are you going to?"--they would answer, "CATS"---WTH is 'CATS'?
