I am trying to book for an appointment but it takes 2 months. I need to walk in but not sure which office has less wait time.
Thanks,

Not sure if this helps, but would AAA work for you?

What do you need at the DMV ?

My calif D/L expires in may, 2019. We will be skippering a sailing vessel in the british virgin islands in may. We like to stay well ahead of the power curve.

I just got on the computer two days ago, Feb 19, 2019, and the soonest appointment was mid april . I took it.

As to which DMV, is best....no clue. No appointment, get there way before they open the doors. We use
the San Clemente DMV, that line can be extremely long. I mean bloody long . Later on, it looked to me, maybe a couple of hundred people.

Early, in line well before the doors open, may be your only choice if you
If you do not make an appointment.

I did not try to make a specific date, I just took what the computer offered for lic renewal only
.
For registration, change of owner ship, and if you are a AAA member, they can handle that. Life made easy.

Drivers lic, and that mickey mouse REAL I.D. has to be the DMV, and they are up to their eyeballs in total confussion concerning the REAL I.D. We are foregoing the REAL I.D., I will use my passport for domestic TSA. Make sure you have all of the required documents, in order, or they will just turn you around and have you come back.

I also have made a copy of my current D/L, USA Passport, Social Security Car, Medicare Card, and VA Health Care Card, and will bring proof of calif residency. Also, will bring the originals . If they mess up, and take months to get my new drivers lic. to me, I will have plenty of proof who I am, if I get pulled over by the police. That is a problem than
2.3 million people have not received their D/L or the REAL I.D. It is a horrendous mess.

Maybe a DMV, that serves a small area would be a better choice than a super busy metropolitan office.

We pretty much stay ahead of the power curve. Even with my appointment, for D/L renewal only and having to take the written exam, not sure how long all that will take. But, with an appointment, it should not be too bad. I am hoping for the best . I am keeping the rest of the day open with no other appointments.

The DMV will email you a copy of your appointment time , date, and what you are applying for. DO NOT LOSE IT.

Act quickly. Best of luck.
