I'll be moving into a home in north Fullerton soon (former rental property), coming from an apartment. Any fellow home owners in the area? Any tips on home maintenance etc. ?

No one from the area?
Anyways, I'm thinking of doing the whole "smart" home thing with Nest and Google.

It's going to be an adjustment going from 800sqft. to 3400 (energy bill...) !

I'm sorry you haven't had responses. I used to live close to that area, but don't any more. What exactly are you asking for? If you would like home maintenance tips, maybe try the House forum.

I have an ecobee thermostat and I like it a lot. You might want to look into it as an alternative to the Nest. Both have their pros and cons.

We also outfitted all of our fixtures with LED lights, with a couple of "smart lights" in the mix.

I just got an electrician to quote me on recessed lights. Are you using the Philips smart bulbs? I'm going with "smart" switches instead.

Also recommend Arlos (wireless security cameras) or any other remote option in addition to your nest/ring.
