Hello there,

I live on the east coast but just received a job offer in Laguna Beach. It seems to be a stunningly beautiful area, but I'm having trouble getting an accurate picture on the cost of living, so I'm unsure if the salary offer is reasonable.

In terms of living cost, I'd be looking for a pet friendly one or two bedroom rental to start. Can anyone advise of the average rental cost or recommend areas that would be reasonably priced with in a commutable distance.

I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thank you!

It's very expensive, and it's also not necessarily quick or easy to get from Laguna Beach to other cities. There are only two roads in and out--Laguna Canyon Road, which is slow, and Pacific Coast Highway, which is even slower. Looking at a map may make it appear that it would be simple to rent in a city that is a little cheaper, say, Lake Forest, and commute to Laguna Beach, but it's more of a hassle than it seems. Particularly in the summer when the beach is crowded and traffic is backed up for three months straight.

Saibot is correct. It probably would be wiser to look at rentals in adjacent cities such as Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel or Lake Forest. While Laguna Beach is stunning, it's also expensive. Laguna Beach hosts the Festival of the Arts from July through August featuring the Pageant of the Masters. The City becomes quite congested particularly on the weekends during that time. The City runs free transit (trolley buses) during the festival months. Coast Highway (CA Hwy 1) and Laguna Canyon Road (CA Hwy 133) are the only two ways in and out of the city.

Which can add a good half hour--even more on the weekends in the spring and summer--to your commute.

Wow, that's actually pretty cheap, relatively speaking.

It's probably a bargain compared to the Bay Area.

That is relatively cheap, and prices are even lower in adjacent Aliso Viejo, located about a 10-15 minute drive to the beach, but without the LB views, vibes, & amenities. The problem though, as a commuter from Aliso to Laguna, the OP would have to time his drives in the summer to beat the crowds.

I personally would choose to live in Newport Beach if you can afford it because the parking and traffic is a little bit better
