I worked from home so I could get them all off at the right times and be able to pick them up occasionally. We lived near Muirlands and La Paz and my kids walked with the neighbor kids to Del Cerro Elementry, La Paz Middle School and MVHS.

And I do think that not having normal bus service for school children is something very unusual that California has done for a long time. Everywhere else I lived has provided this for the children.

Not true, but there are in fact a number of SAHMs. I live in this area too (Saddleback Valley Unified district) and there are two other SAHMs besides myself with kids in this school district on my short street. Or, I should say, instead of SAH we are working from home or working part-time but definitely not gone for long, full-time hours on school days.

It's worth asking around about carpools.

Well....prop 13 keeps our property taxes way lower than other areas that are about as affluent..

Our schools are academically good...but the extras such as bus service, art, music, drivers ed..have been limited...

Not true some area in CA has it. It has nothing to do with Prop 13.

I say that because I saw our prop tax bill yesterday...Orange County..

Our 1.4 million dollar home listed the contribution to our schools....it is very very low..

I have brother back East, affluent area....his prop taxes are 5 times ours..

Their schools have bussing, art, etc..

It seemed a logical inference to me..

Tho we have lived here for 50 years...Irvine never had buses

That because some areas in OC have Mello Roos, but I’ve lived in other area in CA and they have buses, my kids used to take them that’s why I know. So it’s not prop 13, because that affects all of California properties.

Our kids never had them in Irvine...no Mello Roos..

My sisters kids had to pay 300 per child in South County...no Mello Roos

Our grands never has busses in Mission Viejo

No Mello Roos..

Still think our lower prop taxes affect bus. Services

I just googled the effect of Prop 13 has on Ca education..

You may want to research this..

Prop 13 has very drastically affected what Ca spends per pupil when compared to other states.....

It certainly has caused a difference in Ca higher COL areas..such as Orange County..

Bus transportation in OC is part of this..

Now in lower COL areas, it may not

The OP was moving to OC.....having lived here for 50 years, since Prop 13 we rarely see a school bus..
