Texas: "Don't mess with Texas."

Me: "Don't worry, I wouldn't want to."

Disclaimer: I do like Austin, El Paso, and parts of Dallas.

BUT like most of the US, Texas is inferior to California. And by the way there is more to California than just the weather.

That is your opinion.

I don't agree with any state being inferior for everyone, honestly that type of attitude is what makes people hate Californians and just corroborates what everyone says is bad about OC/LA.

That post is great though because it proves that most of the 20mil + living in SoCal will stay there and not infect places like Texas where hospitality and friendliness still exist.

Did you know that there is a gate at the entrance to Orange County and if you are not fake and mean they won't let you in? Amazing but true!

And I mean pay the price in all aspects. Also don't just assume your salary will compensate you for the cost of living in SoCal. That is a very common misconception. Cost of living and salaries out here are not in line. Be prepared for a very fast paced life and constant freeway driving ( in traffic ) being a big part of your day. Be prepared for lots of plastic people and money being a big topic. Be prepared to see Ferrari's and Bentley's quite frequently. Your junk vehicle will stand out. Be prepared for smog also. Lots of it. Don't expect to clearly see the mountains. Be prepared for everything being crowded, all the time.
Now, on the other hand, before I offend all the native SoCal residents, you can also be prepared for a few positives. The weather is generally mild, IMO, year-round. If you like year-round sunshine, you will be happy as well. Don't expect thunderstorms and lightning either. You CAN look forward to Vegas being what you would consider a close drive, although do not EVER consider driving to Vegas on a Friday anytime after 11am. You will regret it. If you don't make at least $150k a year, don't expect to be able to purchase a home. My husband and I make about $90k per year and we are surviving but I wouldn't say we are thriving. I guess it's pretty simple, if you are willing to pay for the weather, you will not be disappointed. Again, these are just my opinions and for some reason I felt compelled to share them.
Cheers!

Smile Moving to California

I have read posting on this site and others in hopes of being encourage and advised about moving to California. I'm in my mid-forties, divorced and currently back in Florida. I have lived in Dallas,TX., Mesa, AZ.,Takoma Park, Maryland., Dulles,Virginia. I grew up in Florida even though I was born in Mississippi. I am very much tired of moving and I figure I would give California a try which it has been my goal to move there ever since I was in my late twenties. When I was married, my husband and daughter and myself visited CA and he complain the whole time. We spent a week in San Fransico in hope of finding a place and we were shock over the prices of rentals apartments.

However, I am a lot more wiser; but just as confused about where to move to in California. I kept moving back to Florida to be near family, but I have never belonged here. It's a gut feeling inside that won't go away and after recent events here I know it's not the place for me. California on the other hand I felt I just belong...I've visted Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose, Milpitas, and it was beautiful each time I was there. But I know it doesn't compare to actually living there.

So with that being said, would someone please recommend a nice city outside of LA that I could afford. I plan to get my real estate licenses and Cosmetolgy license as soon as I get there. I'm currently licensed in Florida but I would need a good salary to be able to afford a decent lifestyle there.

Any suggestions, by the way anyone hiring???

What can you afford?
What is the demand for your services and what is the competition like? Are there a lot of others who can provide the same services you can?

I really thought that I was going to meet a lot of fake, mean OC people when I moved here. Although I've met some "keeping up with the Joneses," playing tennis and golf, dressing myself and my kids to the 10s kind of people, most of the fake and mean people here aren't any different from any other place in the USA.
