NYC to Orange County?
Hey everyone. I was just wondering where a college graduate would fit in CA. I main reason I want to leave New York is because of the weather and stuck up people. Are people in cali much more relaxed and less superficial than the ones in New York? And how much would one need to make yearly to have a decent apt. in Orange County?

consider that a decent 1bd or studio would run you ~1000$ to 1500$ in a decent laid back area like huntington beach. how much you need to make depends on your expenses.
as far as superficial, oc has a few different breeds of people. the superficial people exist, but so do the laid back folks. the most laid back cities are probably the western beach cities(seal beach, sunset beach, surfside, and huntington beach). huntington beach is really the only of those cities that has a large apartment presence.
considering you're coming from nyc, the most walkable areas are probably those i mentioned within a few blocks of the beach, parts of costa mesa, old town orange, and parts of fullerton. orange and fullterton would probably fit what you're looking for laidback wise as well

bhcompy laid it out geographically! You'll find good people all over, but the areas mentioned would suit your desires and coincidentally your wallet. Funny how that works.

Thanks for the info guys. How are the crime rates in the cities that you've mentioned above? And I know it's a stupid question to ask but is street racing really as popular as the movies portray it to be? And last question, just how hard is it to get to meet and get to know people in Cali? Thanks again and God Bless!

none of those areas have any tangible crime problems. as with any area full of young people you will have an increase in young person type crime like drunk driving, vandalism, and such, but rape, murder, etc arent a worry in anyones minds.
cops have cracked down on street racing in recent years, though this area isnt known for it. out in ontario there are a few stretches of road where people meet up on saturday nights to race. highly illegal and the punishment outweighs the crime, so its gone away some. easier to goto the dragstrip and race legally.
as far as meet and greet, its up to you. there are bars where singles hang out, there are clubs, there are plenty of places

Laid Back Area's would be like Orange, Fountain Valley, Westmister, Cypress.
If you are looking closer to the beach the most laid back beach would be Sunset Beach, People in Villa Park and Anaheim Hills pretty much keep to themselves.
