Interesting subject.
I am researching moving out from HB to Sequim,WA or Reno-Carson-Douglas-Lyon,NV
or Whyoming or South Darkota or even Alaska for TAX reason.
Weather, instantly kill every places except Sequim and Northern NV.
Sequim has cloudy sunny dark sky weather with 16in rain.
HB has clear sharp blue sky sunny weather with 4in rain.
N. NV has huge variation of weather. Some places snow a lot and some places snow a inch. Some places cool in the summer , but cold in the winter and some places hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Some places dry and some places wet.
They all have cheaper RE than RE in HB.
In Sequim, one can get Bay view, Cahnnel view, Island View, Snow top Mt. view...walk to beach...couple miles to WM,HD... all in one package(better than NB houses) under 300k, but it will be a pain to get to Sea-Tec Airport to visit your HB vacation home and friends/family.

Last option is to become an instant resident of South Darkota and avoid CA for some time and roaming between no state tax states to find a place to stay or NOT.
