Default traffic?

later this week i will start working in foothill ranch/irvine, I will be commuting from la mirada/buena park area, most likely going south on the 5 the whole way. i know there will be traffic but i am wondering how much. i will not be carpooling, and need to be at work at 7 30, most other days 8am. how bad will the traffic be?

I used to have to commute from Anaheim (Euclid/5S) to Irvine (exit Alton). Honestly, it was the worst commute of my life. I HATED it. For the most part, if I didn't get on the freeway before 7am...it was frustrating bumper to bumper all the way to work- especially near the 55. I'd say total commute time was 45 minutes- could get up to an hour if I left after 7 though.

To keep my sanity, I started leaving for work around 6am. After work, I'd leave around 3pm...you'd think traffic would be lighter at this time- but it was always a mess. always. Usually going home would take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.

Anytime it rained, I'd leave for work no later than 5:30am. The rain doubled my commute time. There are always accidents. I got stuck on the freeway once for three hours. Not fun.

Just to be fair, I only had to work this job November-January. It's possible that the high traffic I experienced was unique to the holiday season. I'm not sure.

Hope this helps.

Depends on the time of day. It will be really bad during rush hours. about 6:30 a.m. - 9:00 (sometimes 10: a.m.). And about 3 p.m. - 6:30 P.M. If you can drive a other times, it will be better.

It will also vary from day to day. If there is an accident, it will be worse. If there is a holiday, it will probably be lighter. The Friday before a long weekend is generally terrible everywhere.
