Default Young professional - where to live in OC?

Hey everyone,

I just took a new job in Foothill Ranch, now I'm looking for places to live. I'm a 23 year-old single guy, and basically I want to live near the beach and hang out with people my age. Don't know anything about SoCal...the two areas that I've considered at this point are Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. I can afford up to $2k/mo in rent, and again I'm mostly interested in beach life and nightlife. Suggestions? What are the pros and cons of Newport vs Laguna? How about other places?

laguna has a sizeable gay population if that matters at all to you. newport is very popular with the college/just out of college crowd and may be more to your liking. also look into huntingiton beach, but that starting to become a pretty rough commute to foothill ranch. even newport and laguna are a pretty good treck to foothill ranch. you may also consider the irvine spectrum area or the area near UCI.

I am a 23 yr old as well. I have lived in Newport for 5 years now. It is definitely the place for you. Laguna is an older crowd. Email me for help...ericreingen@pruoc.com

Foothill Ranch is not helpful for your commute as you don't want to live anywhere around there. Agree Newport is probably your best bet given your job location.

Laguna Beach to Foothill Ranch is about 17.5 miles. The fastest route is Laguna Canyon Rd to the 133 tollroad (this will cost you money each way) to the 241 south to Foothill. To avoid the tollroad, you can take Laguna Canyon to Alton Rd. east. Drive time is about 40 minutes at rush hour.

Newport Beach to Foothill Ranch is 20 miles from Fashion Island to Foothill either using or not using the tollroad. Drive time of 30 minutes in no traffic, not sure of the rush hour commute from here.

Best of luck. Foothill Ranch is not the most exciting place for a young adult unless you like being surrounded by 35 year old moms pushing strollers. I agree a beach community is best for you.

I've also heard that I might enjoy Huntington Beach or Dana Point. How are the commutes from those places to FR?

You might want to also consider Aliso Viejo if you don't find anything in Newport. Much closer and also a younger demographic. Or even West Irvine, there is young professional crowd. $2000.00 won't get you one of the Tower Condo's off Jamboree and the 405 but there are in the area that are close to Newport but also a quick drive over to Foothill.

Have any further questions, lease do not hesitate to contact me.
