Not a conundrum at all, Attorneys General aren't there to decide which law to enforce, they are there to enforce all laws. There are many laws on the books I don't agree with, that doesn't mean you don't enforce it.

Besides, I've never really been able to accept the "theory of evolution." Yeah right, this whole universe with the billions and trillions of planets, moons and stars (plus the known life on Earth) all "kind of evolved?"
Where did the orignal matter come from? The energy? Evolution needed to start with SOMETHING. Where did "that" come from?

The theory provided by science is as no more hard to believe than creationism. Besides, not all supporters of creationism are trailer hicks with low IQ.

By Happ's definition, Barack Obama; a Christian, Bill Clinton; a Christian, Jimmy Carter; a Christian, JFK; a Christian, Truman; a Christian, FDR; a Christian, Woodrow Wilson; a Christian, all fall into his catergory of anti-intellectual; What a Moron. When a Liberal doesn't agree with a Conservative they label them as anti intellectual.

Those are good questions for the Religion thread.

I have lived in California all of my 47 years.

And in presidential elections from the '50s to the '80s, a Democrat has only won in California one time...

Year----- Candidate and percent
1952----- Eisenhower, 56.83%
--------- Stevenson, 42.27

1956----- Eisenhower, 55.39
--------- Stevenson, 44.27

1960----- Nixon, 50.10
---------- Kennedy, 49.55

1964----- Goldwater, 40.79
---------- Johnson, 51.11

1968------ Nixon, 47.82
---------- Humphrey, 44.74

1972------ Nixon, 55.00
---------- McGovern, 41.54

1976------ Ford, 49.35
---------- Carter, 47.57

1980------ Reagan, 52.69
---------- Carter, 35.91

1984------ Reagan, 57.51
----------- Mondale, 41.27

1988------ Bush, 51.13
---------- Dukakis, 47.56

Fleet, can you produce some numbers of the voting profile for the towns you've identified? Remember the overall San Fernando Valley voted 72% for Obama
I would have to look that up. As one member has already said, though, don't go by the results of one election. They valley also used to be more conservative.

And Reagan changed from a liberal Democrat to a Conservative Republican in 1962, 4 years before he was elected governor.

Probably because there were so many Californians on GOP tickets as either VP or president. From 1948 (when then-Gov. Warren was Tom Dewey's VP) to 1984 (when Reagan ran for re-election), Californians were on the Republican ticket in every election except 1964 and 1976. And look how close 1976 was.

Funny how all 3 Californian presidents have been Republicans: Herbert Hoover (the only Northern Californian president), Richard Nixon, and Reagan.

I look at the nonsense propagated by Democrats about social security reform in 2004 and lost what little respect I had for any liberal concept of economics and the snakeoil salesmen who sell it.

Frankly, I'm ashamed of California, and really, is it any wonder the state is so deeply in debt? I saw the California legislature has now proposed a 2.5% income tax fee, a 13 cent per gallon fuel tax, and a .75 cent increase in sales tax to combat this little recession. That'll definitely keep the businesses in California.

And you know what's going to happen when the economy booms? Any revenue generated by this nonsense is going to be spent the Democrats in Sacramento, the economy will dive again in a few years, and guess who is going to be once again called upon to save the state's budget? Yep, people who are actually productive. Forget about running the state like a business that has to make cuts when times are tough....

I lived in Orange County and loved it, despite the fact the rest of the state's attempts to ruin it with massive and ridiculous taxation. I now look at the state from the vantage point of my Tennessee mountain top and laugh all the way to the bank. Thanks for Nissan, by the way! There's going to be more of that as businesses dump California, its backwards taxation and anti-growth policies, and begin relocating where the economy is actually geared towards progress.

Orange County remains a bastion of sanity in an insane place. A bright spot where you can actually send your kids to school and feel relatively safe. Where test scores are actually something to be proud about.

Go check out the monstrosity that is the LA Unified School District and get back to me on that one. Ask around. Well, if you can find someone who actually speaks English. Or hasn't dropped out.
84% of Republicans voted for prop 8 to deny gay marriage
Please don't propagate this mess. Proposition 8 defined marriage as solely between a man and a woman. There is nothing in there whatsoever about "gay marriage." Polygamists, zoophiles, and polyamorous pairings were also denied. Further, not a single state has banned any type of marriage. Marriage has only been defined.

If a gay couple wants to marry in San Mateo, they can still do it. The state just won't recognize it. They can make their vows before one another, stand before their God, their families, and their friends, and declare their eternal love for one another. They just do so without state recognition.

Call it what it is. You'd see just as much opposition to changing the current definition of marriage if polygamists had tried to change it. Opposition to Proposition 8 is not homophobia or polyophobia, but rather born in an inherent understanding of what marriage is.

People in California don't agree with you and probably why you now live in the South. Many of the very expenses\ taxes you refer to were voting in by the electorate [who rarely reject special funds for the needs of the state. That is why California is not Tennessee or at least your "hill". Good example, it was announced today that one of the huge national banks that received $700 billion bailout moved their headquarters out of the country & now only pay 1% taxes.

You are foolish to think that the low wages\ "no union" mentality of the South will prevail since it can all be done cheaper in China & India. Bottom line for capitalism is the bottom of the barrel. Real bright people down your way
