I think most Dems should be embarrased at people like you, happ. Instead of being happy that Obama won, you've taken to name-calling against those who didn't vote for him like a spoiled third-grade brat.

Believe me, I met plenty of stupid people when I caucused for Obama last spring. Interestingly, I'd say that the Hillary supporters in our crowd were the most intelligent and articulate ones around. There are plenty of smart Republicans, too. That's why we have a TWO party system in this country -- it encourages debate and dialogue -- since there's always two sides to every issue. It's part of democracy.

I did not say that either. It is trying to have to repeat what I wrote over and over. Please do not read into things what is not there. I did not say democrats are unwise, nor did I say that everyone who is educated and acquires wisdom becomes a republican. Many do not, for a myriad of different reasons.

I know some really smart democrats. I even know one or two wise ones.

However someone asked why the republican party tends to be focused in areas where there are a lot of old people and wealthy people. I do not think that age or wealth have anything to do with it directly. But it does seem to concentrate amongst those who are college educated (and often therefore successful/wealthy) and wise (usually meaning older). The split between the liberal dems and the conservative reps is more about social issues (abortion, gay marriage, and stem cell research (which is really an abortion issue)) than it is about political ideologies.

Both parties tax and spend heavily. Just slightly different philosophy. Republicans spend on infrastructure and other projects designed to stimulate growth. Dems spend on welfare and entitlement programs.

When I was in college, everyone I knew was liberal and a democrat. Now all of those same people are moderate or conservative and republican. Very few of them are significantly rich. I do not see the issue as being a rich vs. poor thing. Wealthy people like to stay wealthy, but they also like the help people. (Where do most chartable donations come from?). I have been fairly wealthy and really really poor. Neither condition has any impact on my political ideology.

I love the democratic ideology. It is wonderful. The idea that Obama will actually change things. That he will somehow lower taxes, end the war without surrendering Iraq to the terrorists, fix the economy, provide free health care for everyone and switch the country from fossil fuels to green energy sources is wonderful. If he actually had any possibility of doing those things I would be his biggest supporter (as long as he di dnot indenture my children to the Chinese for the rest of their lives in doing so). However, reality being what it is, I would prefer a more realistic approach to things that might actually get accomplished.

The worst news for Republicans is that every county in California saw gains for Democrats & none for the GOP. Look at Orange county [as blue as the rest of California: Go to "Voting Shift"

President Map - Election Results 2008 - The New York Times

Now tell me how Republicans are safe in Orange county?

Your assumptions are so out-of-sync with reality. Take a close look at categories of voters. Only 65+ yr olds remain mostly Republican. Only evangelical\mormon are Republican. In every other category: all voters under age 65 & especially between 18-30 voted overwhelmingly for Obama.

In Los Angeles, all areas voted Democratic [Beverly Hills & Compton\ Malibu & East LA]. All segments of the population [rich & poor\ black & white\ educated & illiterate] are Democratic. And these breakdowns are true all over California.

Clearly, you may want to examine how the GOP is doing in the West [including Nevada\ Colorado\ New Mexico]

When a Republican wins, Democrats all claim they are leaving the country.

When a Democrat wins, Democrats all decree Republicans as stupid, racist, and religious nuts. Republicans hope the Democrat does a good job.

happ, you're falling for a classic trap. the nation is in a rut and people turn to idealism when in a rut. democrats are traditionally the idealists. when the nation is out of the rut and back to looking at things on top, they'll look for a realist to fix the problems that idealists never do because they're always striving for the next best thing rather than fixing what we already have

You may be right considering all that Democrats must do to clean-up our nation:
1. End 2 wars that Bush totally screwed up & now cost the U.S. dearly
2. Vastly improve an economy ruined by greedy corporations that Republicans lavish with tax cuts & bailouts
3. Begin building roads\ highways\ trains
4. Fund medical research\ stem cell
5. Fund energy alternatives ASAP
6. Improve America's soiled image world-wide

All thanks to President Bush
