It shows! The beaches are not as bad as you describe them. (I surf and am there every day. ) There are pollution issues(especially after rain), but rarely does one encounter a problem with trash.

Roma-The communities, aforementioned, were neighborhood sections,- some gated.

Yeah, me too! I'm over 40 and still have to work for a living. But, I guess if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to afford even a box of cereal to eat for breakfast.

If I were you, I wouldn't discount Huntington Beach so quickly. Most of the "party scene" is located within Downtown and there are a few fabulous, quiet neighborhoods scattered throughout the city.

I would highly suggest neighborhoods within Huntington Seacliff, which does boast the Seacliff Country Club and golf course (albeit not necessarily on par with Balboa Bay Club, etc). Huntington Seacliff includes a few gated communities: Seacliff Estates (on golf course), The Bluffs, Boardwalk, and Sand Castle Estates. Another notable neighborhood is Edwards Hill, complete with horse trails and homes on larger lots.

Furthermore, I can't personally attest to the environment in Huntington Harbour, but I do know that it is common for harbour homes to sell for upwards of two or three million dollars (there's one currently going for 7.5 million). It's an area of Huntington Beach to consider nonetheless.

Laguna is nice, but I prefer Newport / Carona Del Mar.

Lived in OC most of my life... I took it for granted while I was there. I miss it so much!

I differ with your opinion!

Laguna Beach attracts mostly younger people, surfers, artists, tourists etc. It most definitely is not Senior City by any means!

I moved from Long Island, NY ...am 55yr. single female...semi-retired...fulltime artist.
My neighbors are single late 30's 40's and some young families!

I chose Laguna Beach because it has a 'small town' flavor.
Great things about Laguna Beach? Village atmosphere, mostly small cottages, active community preservation board, NO McD's here!
Mom and Pop cleaners, hardware stores, great outdoor cafes, bakeries, art galleries, cute boutiques and most every place is small business and if you are a resident people remember your name! I love it here!
The summertime is VERY busy...this is a plus if you're in business here or are looking for excitement and touristy things to do...and share with your 'frequent' friends visiting YOU! I'm always showing my family and friends around. (this could be a plus or minus!)
If you live middle or south Laguna...you can travel for your daily errands south and not be stuck in traffic at all.
Another reason I 'chose' Laguna Beach...rather than Newport, Huntington Beach, is that there is a higher percentage of homes with an ocean view because its built on hillsides, overlooking the house in front of you.

I live in an area called Arch Beach Heights which is very condensed, but quiet, near a great park with tennis courts, soccer field and hiking trails.
The homes here are fairly reasonable for Laguna Beach real estate because of the long hill climb, but that explains the QUIET because here there is no traffic! or curious tourists....

I've found that the beach here is VERY CLEAN, it's our pride and joy!

Laguna Beach is also 'buffered' by open land on all three sides between Newport Beach, Irvine, and Dana Point! Very 'small town' flavor compared to other beach cities.
