Just on a personal level here but I am curious if anyone has noticed the amount of crime really starting to pick up.

I usually only hear gun shots maybe 1 time per year that is it. So far in December I've heard them 3 times.

This is the East Garden Grove area mind you (obviously, not the best area). Most of the shots I hear are coming from the Santa Ana area (no surprise).

Anyone have any recent crime statistics?

Yes In a major way. In Laguna Beach where i stay lots of smash and grab car burglarys and gang grafitti in the Gleneyre street neighborhoods. Other police departments seem to like to dump all the homeless people in Laguna Beach and Santa Ana as well!

The economic situation probably is a driver:

I'm more worried about the white collar criminals in the financial, mortgage and real estate industries. I want to see some of those SOBs get the death penalty.

Are they to be blamed or is it rather, the system, that allows them to flourish? It is no mistake that the fed dominates much of what happens in our economy through the use of credit and credit contraction. If we were on a gold/silver standard, much of these boom and busts would be smaller and would only occur due to a misvaluation of assets. Not because of massive credit increases and credit contractions (which are planned for the most part).

That incident in South El Monte was scary esp since the man used his 6 yr old son as a shield with the police [thank God the boy wasn't killed like his father].

All of us should beware that bad times make people resort to burglaries. Keep your windows\ doors locked when not home. Crime will definitely go up, I'm afraid.

'tis the season.....for property crimes and theft. Historically these types of crimes pickup a bit in December. I guess even thieves need money for gifts.

I worked in a retail store when I was in college. Shoplifting always increased dramatically in December.
