Default Asians; Growing Faster than Latinos in OC

I saw this in the L.A. Times today and it surprised me. I did not know the Asian population was outpacing the Hispanic population of Orange County in growth. I knew we had Asian areas, but was surprised to see them growing faster than Hispanics (who people complain about a lot for growing too fast). The current estimate is that 16% of the county is Asian and 33% is Hispanic.

Korean Americans find a home in Fullerton - Los Angeles Times

Just an interesting article about this county's changing demographics.

That's because Asians generally quietly keep to themselves and their kids bring the standards up at the schools they attend.

Where I live (Newer East Irvine near 241) 2 years ago was pretty much all White, East Indian, with a sprinkling of Hispanic and Asians, is now all most all Asian.

It is like 1 Asian family moved in and then signaled to the rest to move in all at once.

Yes they are mostly-clean, nice and keep to themselves, which I like.

You have to be very outgoing if you are a non-asian living in an Asian community though. They are very passive, but we have made some good friends especially having our 1 year old girl play with their kids.

Asians and Latinos get along pretty well here, I think speaking multiple languages creates a bond. We are actually teaching a Chinese couple Spanish, in exchange for some Mandarin and Abacus lessons for our daughter.

I live in South County so I am not up there that much and I knew communities like Westminister, Garden Grove, parts of Irvine, etc... always had a signifigant population of Asians with areas like Little Saigon. What surprises me is that they are growing at a FASTER rate here than Hispanics.

Have never found that "ethnic" Indians or East Asians or Jewish kids (whether from OC/SiliconValley/NYC's outer boroughs or NJ/LI suburbs) are ever particularly high-achievers in college or in their careers....

Indeed a motley crew of high-achievers at any college/industry of note....random white/Jewish/Indian/Chinese, etc kids from middle-income or wealthy or poor backgrounds (from both US and RoW)....Darwinian selection at its best...sort of like the NBA/NFL/MLB/media&entertainment industry
