I posted a similar thread on the LA forum a while back.........I lived in OC briefly as a young man. Now I am married with preteen children. I am African American/Latino. My question is this. Where in Orange County is a good place to raise children? I don't want to be near gang influence, but I also would like safety, great schools and diversity. Where could I go that would be diverse, safe and have good schools? What about housing prices?

In South OC, I think you would like Irvine or Mission Viejo, it is very diverse and has great schools. Housing Prices in Irvine are insane still many with high Mello-Roos, but Mission Viejo is "reasonable" and incredibly safe.

I think as you get closer to Newport and Huntington Beach it becomes more closed minded and race conscious.

But out here in east Irvine/Foothills/Mission Viejo everyone is cool to each other, I know some Puerto Ricans and Cubans out here too, they live in harmony. Beunas Suerte

western OC also is a nice place.

Cypress, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, and western Garden Grove all have very good schools and have as much a degree of diversity as any other middle class or above portion of OC
