What a person votes is not necessarily what they register. That is unless they are too stupid. A truly intelligent voter will vote for who they think can do the best job. That is why you saw many Republicans whether out of protest or just because there was not better options presented voted Obama. There were instances in this election where Republicans won the districts but Obama won the presidential vote. This just show that Republican voters are not as stupid.

This type of situation happens from time to time. Where do you think we got the phrase Reagan Democrats from? Every so often people wake up and vote for what they think is best for the country without consideration of party. Only time will tell regarding Obama.

For those of you not old enough to have experienced this in major proportions please follow the link and you will see some amazing information. Some may like it some may not but there is no disputing the facts that are there.

In the 1984 election Reagan won 58.8% to 40.6% over Mondale. This is a clear case when the people of America knew who they wanted as President regardless of party. Mondale only won 1 state, 13 electoral votes. Regan carried 49 states. His victory over Carter in the previous election was not as astounding 489 to 49 but still pretty incredible.

This is clearly a time in our society where the people spoke and party was secondary.

Who do I vote for if one candidate is best for me, and the other candidate is best for the country or the County of Orange (for post validation purposes)?
How much time should I spend researching?
Should I still vote if I can't make up my mind?
Should local elections, like Orange County supervisors, have the equivalent of electoral colleges?

Hey Charles, just for the sake of this post.

I believe the choices that are best for an individual are usually best for the country as well. But if I had to pick one or the other, I would pick the best for the country. Then on down to state, county, city, etc.

It's up to the individual to decide how much is enough research. I would like to see a more informed public, rather than people who latch onto a bunch of catch phrases like "hope & change". I also like it when people get their info from many different sources. If you listen/watch the same thing to get all your information, you will get opinions that are swayed one way or another.

I believe also that if you have done the proper research, the choice, for you, will be clear. If not, it's that individuals call.

Cant reallty speak to local politics scene. I don't get into that a whole lot. I know I should.

I think Obama's making a huge mistake with all these bailouts. Usually economies can pull through on their own. I'm glad that he's planning on lowering taxes though. Even on businesses.

My comments in "No Beliefs Blue". The guy paying no taxes has just as much voting power as the guy paying $80K in taxes.

I don't believe anything. Believing is a weakness. I want facts or probabilities. Politicians tend to start sentences with "I believe..." which is a way of lying without lying and telling people what they want to hear. Believing isn't much more than hoping, like "I hope...".

I believe also that if you have done the proper research, the choice, for you, will be clear. If not, it's that individuals call.

"I believe", again...doesn't mean anything. Re-phrase to "I hope that if you have done enough research....." sounds the same.
How much is "proper"? PhDs in economics and history and sociology can't agree, so how can it be clear to me?

He can come up with 20 PhDs to counter any argument you have. And vice versa.
