Who commutes to work each day from OC to LA? Is the drive really bad?

Totally depends on what time of day and from where in OC and to where in LA.

Default South OC to USC

My dh commutes from South OC (Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo area) to USC everyday. He typically leaves at 6:00 a.m. and arrives at 7:30 a.m. If he leaves work 6:30 or later typically he is home within an hour. It's a long commute, but he loves his job and loves where he lives so it's worth it to him. The greater the distance between your job and home, the more you should love both. I hope this helps.

Ouch. He better love his job (considering he's at home only 10.5 hours a day).

That's a minimum 2.5 hours (100 miles RT) commute per day, which is about 2.5 hours out of maybe 5 hours of disposable time per day, the time not sleeping, eating, working, paying bills, posting on City-Data, fixing something around the house, etc.

I agree, Charles. And I might advocate a different location, but this job is less than a 2 year assignment and then he will relocate to another So Cal post--maybe Oceanside, Costa Mesa or Anaheim. So, as long as he is happy, I will take up the slack when he is not home and try to make those precious 10.5 hours worth it to him when he is home.

Right on.

You aren't in Port Hueneme anymore? I used to work at Mugu.

Yes, my dad used to do it for quite a while, he said he never has spent so much time in his car in his life!

Unless the Job is crazy good, I would find an L.a suburb to live in

Where in LA? If it's downtown, the train is the way to go.
