Does the OC suffer the same gang problem as LA?

Not even close. I lived in Santa Ana for three decades. Did not feel safe there in recent years, but never worried about gangs. Also the black population in OC in rather small.

dude, the gang problems in LA are drastically exaggerated and in nearly all cases limited to certain neighborhoods. normal people are living their lives in fear of being shot by gang members in the vast majority of LA or OC. If you avoid south central, the central san fernando valley, and east la, you probably won't even see any gang members. same goes for the lower income, minority-majority neighborhoods in OC as well.

you'll get better responses from people if you ask more specific questions about neighborhoods, commutes, and rental/home prices.

Gangs are no where to be found in OC except maybe Anaheim, Santa Ana (and gang members in surrounds are just scatterred spillovers). Anaheim and Santa Ana are nothing to LA.

Gangs are everywhere in LA. i lived there for four years- never felt safe.

that's funny because i have lived in LA for 4 years and never felt unsafe.

i apologize if i'm hijacking this thread. i'm just trying to make it obvious to the OP that it is easy to avoid gangs in socal.

Gangs are everywhere in L.A.? Really? Either peolpe are misinformed, ignorant, or just plain scared. Admittedly, Los Angeles does have some rough neighborhoods. But the city is 464 square miles. And what difference does the black population of OC make? Ever heard of MS 13? There aren't many blacks in that gang. Also, the Asian gangs are very active. They just are more covert about it.

The gang problem in L.A. is overstated. If you have zero street smarts, then maybe you should be scared. If you have any common sense you will be fine.

Did he ask you where there any blacks in OC are is there gang violence in OC? What does being black have to do with any of this conversation. How stupid and misinformed people are. if you ever take the time and read you will know the majority of gangs are not BLACK!!!!!!!come on people.

as far as some of the comments...
L.A is the gang capaital...there are a lot of copy cat gangs that have made there way east, and people act like they are a big deal and i just laugh. I dont understand how someone can deny there is a heavy gang population in l.a when there obviously is...bloods/crips were going at it more in the latE 80s through early-mid 90s...but now the tension is more brown vs. black.

Now there is a difference between having a gang problem in a city and being in trouble everywhere you go in that city. I have been through some of the worse areas in Los Angeles and have never once had a problem, not saying that it couldnt happen but just saying it has never happened to me. I am a big scary looking guy(who obviously is white by my username) but that doenst matter when someone has a heater on them and they dont care whether they use it or not...but none the less I have been in compton, watts, east side of south central/low bottoms etc...and never once had a problem. However L.A does have a big existance of gangs. For example people think of santa monica as being wonderful, and parts of it are...but the east side of santa monica definately has one barrio.

and for the record a lot of people dont realize this, but there are a lot of neighborhoods in L.A that look like your typical suburbian neighborhood but are dangerous, and you shouldnt go creeping around. One example is in the western/111th area home to a crip set, very nice looking area, but a very territorial area.

so i guess im going back and forth between what im saying...but im just expressing what i know...

O.k. how would I know I never lived in LA just San Diego/El Cajon back in the 90's and to be honest I never seen any gangs are I wasn't in the area of the gangs. All I know is what I read and what I see on T.V. so my thought might not count. If your ignorant enough to think only black people shoot then you need you might be caught up in the cross fire.
