Default Anaheim, Fullerton, or Garden Grove for a family?

Hi again, Sonia from Dallas. After spending the weekend in OC and researching the schools for our son we have changed the school he will be going to.

We will send him to a school on N. State College Blvd between Riverside Freeway and La Palma Ave. zip code 92806.

Any recommendations on where to look to be within a 15 mins drive in a nice area with 3 bedroom, apt, town house, condo... with maximum rent $2300.

I was looking on rent.com and saw these apts. Any thoughts on the apts and area.

fullerton, its a no brainer. also, use craigslist to look for rentals, you'll have way more options and may even be able to find a nice little house in your price range.

Thanks I'll do that, it would be nice to be in a house. Why do you recommend Fullerton over the others?

absolutely, fullerton is a very nice town. the "not so nice" areas of fullerton are much smaller than the other cities you mentioned. just say north of commonwealth and you shouldn't have any issues. even if you have to look in the south of commonwealth areas, they really aren't that bad, you should be absolutely fine. you may also look into placentia and brea as well. though not as near to your son's school as fullerton, they aren't too far away and are also nice. however, i would ultimately decide on where to live based on where you and your husband will be working. commuting here is as bad as you've probably read about, possibly worse.

I'm not familiar with the one in Garden Grove, but out of the other options, the one in Fullerton is by far the best.

I think the best way to find a good neighborhood is to look at the school performance map. Even if you don't have a school-aged child, you will get an idea for the viability of different areas. Schools don't become bad in a vacuum, and their performance is almost always an indicator of what is going on in the neighborhood.

Just curious, if the school he is going to is a public school, are there any issues with zoning? Meaning, must you live in that school's zone? Some school systems do not allow "school choice" type flexibility. Might want to check.

Well for the time being I am staying home with our son and my husband is a consultant so he travels during the week, so anywhere close to an airport works. We flew into SNA this weekend, it was nice, not to busy.

Agreed on Fullerton. Nice town, not too many "bad" areas per se (although compared to Los Angeles County, Orange County has a relative dearth of bad areas).

As for John Wayne, there's times when you can find decent airfare, and times where you're better off flying out of Ontario or LAX. SNA tends to be a little more expensive than the other airports (even Southwest, from my experience) but has good deals every once in a while. That airport has serious problems with growth/development and there are constant feuds with the millionaires in Newport Beach over noise pollution. Flying out of there ain't exactly my cup of tea, but some people love it.
