If you are a true liberal tree hugger then south orange county is not for you. we are the last of the strong hold south orange co up thru san diego. I am very involved in polictics and no you will not be with like minded. We here are mostly moderate democrats (yuk) but better than far left and the others are severe far right. we currently for aliso viejo, dana point, san juan, san clemente, laguna niguel and mission viejo are putting together a tea party for the 15th so no big disagreement with prior posts. Not true, you want liberals go to Irvine and keep on going until you hit LA. All your kind will be there.

HOW PROUD YOU MUST BE.

And no, there are really not much crimes or gangs in these regions - only more towards Santa Ana, Westminster and Long Beach.

By the way, what disappointed you with Chicago? Its such a beautiful city. I know the weather is not to be desired half of the year, but otherwise it seems to be a lovely city; a more mellow NYC.

From my holiday travels Seal sounds like the kind of place you'd like.... however I'm a 'conservative' but have loads of hippy/vegetarian very liberal friends and we get on like a house on fire so don't count yourself out of areas just on that basis... I've a friend who lives in Pasadena who thinks it's a fantastically liberal place but I've only been for a few days so I can't say with much authority!

Good luck!

I disagree... Venice/Hermosa Beach is more like the Santa Cruz of So Cal IMHO. Even still, it has a unique So Cal vibe to it. Nothing in OC is remotely similar to the Bay area in any way. I love what both have to offer.

It is good to see that Orange County has its own identity.

Yep, there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. You'll run into this all over OC, so heed this sort of warning before you're surrounded in the street (or on your lawn). Where they label people as "your kind" is not where you want to raise your kids. Head north. Your Scotts Valley idea is a good one.

Pasadena would be great for you. Very liberal but not hippie liberal. People look pretty conservative the way they dress, etc. but in general they are not (which is why our conservative family was happy to move to OC.) It's still pretty far from Pomona though.

OC of today is more liberal than many Bay Area suburbs were 20 years ago. It's all relative.

I know, but it is the most liberal coastal area in San Diego (hence better air quality) and the school district is very highly rated. We'll see how it all works out. It is between Encinitas and Aptos right now. But we LOVE the warmer weather and schools are one of our top priorities so that is why we are leaning toward Encinitas.
