I found out they hired a 22 year old right out of CSULB. He had no experience in the subject matter and didn't have a credential (bottom rung of the pay scale).

Why am I not surprised? It's terrible, really. What value do we place on education anyways? Unreal.

Blame the teacher's union. They are the root of all that is wrong with the education system. Absolutely destructive to students.

While I wouldn't disagree with your statement that teacher unions are terrible (they are in so many ways), the main issues facing schools today in CA are directly related to the budget crisis in CA.

Well you can blame other unions for the budget crisis in CA. Above private sector salaries and pensions are the biggest issues in the CA budget. That said, even with the budget cuts, the schools have enough money. They are simply poorly run and inefficient. Much of that is due to the teacher's union policies.

Uh..... careful. Have you personally looked at the school budgets recently? I'd do a bit of research before you make a sweeping statement such as that! School districts DO NOT have enough money for next year. I would agree that districts could improve the efficiency at which they run (and some are far worse than others), but there are districts out there in CA that have been prudent with their money and are simply being forced to cut MILLIONS from their budgets because of the fiscal crisis. Your statement might be true for SOME districts, but not all. I encourage you to research this some more before commenting.

I don't know on a district by district basis. What I do know is that the education system in CA has enough money. It is not efficient in the way it spends money and that is the problem.

Very recently, CA was 47th in per pupil spending. Now that the budget has passed we have the illustrious position of being DEAD LAST in per pupil spending. While I can't comment on the efficiency of how we spend money (I won't comment on what I don't know), I think it is safe to say that since we are DEAD LAST in the U.S. in per pupil spending we don't have a huge reserve for our education programs in CA. There are problems with education in CA.... I won't disgaree with you. But, what is fact is that we DO NOT (under any circumstances) have "enough money for schools." That's about the most ludicrous thing I've heard in a looooong time. Seriously, what industry do you work in? Where do you live? What is your background? I'm amazed to hear someone say that in 2009 in CA.

Being 47th in the US means nothing. We as a country spend more than enough regardless of the state. The problem is not money. No matter how much money we give, the teacher's union will always say the need more. Again the problem is not lack of money.

Wow. Interesting perspective. I disagree with you 110%, but that's okay.
