It's kind of funny(not) but in many states whatever the predominent Hispanic culture is that's what people think you are: In Florida--you're Cuban, in New York- you're Puerto Rican, in Las Vegas-- you're from El Savador, in California--you're from Mexico. My guess would be that no other culture has so many varieties of nationalities so it's easy to just lump everyone into the same category. Meanwhile from Puerto Rican to Peruvian there's a huge cultural difference. That would be like saying a white Irish person is the same as a white Italian person, totally different cultures no?

Stereotypes abound everywhere, and unfortunately many stereotypes have been founded in some truth but generalizations stink, I guess I don't feel the need to dislike an entire group of people based on the actions of a few.

I'm an Asian male who grew up in Santa Ana. I've gone to school and worked in New York and the South. Anyone who complains about racism in Orange County has never experienced real racism.

Seriously, people here lack spine, mental toughness, and are ridiculously self-conscious of how they're perceived. Not everyone is going to like you, date you, or frankly even want to look at you. And its their right and perogative to do so. People in Newport aren't racist, they just like everyone else in the world like to hang out with people that have similar values. It just happens that coincidentally, the majority of the population in Newport is white. If you're a minority, people will probably look at you, why, because you're different than what they're used to seeing. As an Asian growing up in Santa Ana, I was stared at a lot, why, because, I don't look Hispanic and Santa Ana's a predominately Hispanic neighborhood. Same thing happened when I was in Mt. Vernon, New York or St. Petersburg, Virginia (all black neighborhoods). Maybe I should start crying because people didn't automatically give me the pound and embrace me as one of their boys right when I walked into their neighborhood. What people call racism is pretty ridiculous.
Grow up people.
