The oc
I just wanted to post to all newcomers on this forum, to OC or anyone thinking about living in Orange County...
We don't call Orange County "the OC" like the TV show. It's a sure-fire way to show you're from out of town and obsessed with the lame unrealistic tele-drama.
While I'm at it, I'd like to add that we down south don't refer to California as "Cali" either. We may say "So Cal" for southern California but don't generally use "Cali". Maybe it's different in Northern Cal, I'm not sure.
OK, off my soapbox for today.

Thank you. "The OC" and "Cali" grate on my last living nerve.

Amen. "OC" is good. "So Cal" or "Cal" are good.
"THE OC" and "Cali" are obnoxious. It's like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard.

Better yet, people from out of state should just assume that everything they hear about OC in movies or TV is 100% wrong.

You mean to tell me its impossible to live in a trailer on the beach in Malibu and make it with only $200 a day in addition to driving a bitchin' Firebird?
The Rockford Files lied to me...

I always thought the same thing...but so many out-of-staters have started saying those two things, that I think it has leaked into native's language too. I know several people born and raised in California who regularly use both (and shouldn't, haha).

You were'nt lied to, just forgot to adjust for inflation. Rockford's $200 a day in 1975 is now $1k . And you can live on the beach in a rental if you make $365k/ yr.
Now if you want to BUY, thats another story.......
