I'm Black and in IT industry - some 20 years. I'm also a Christian Minister. I moved to Mission Viejo (due to a job move) some 4 years ago not knowing what I would find or how my Family and I would be received. We found Pacific Ridge area unfriendly and people (which are mostly White) "broke" their necks almost each and everytime we entered the community. I'm spend a lot of years in the "Deep South" (The Carolinas, Georgia etc...) and I know racists when I see them... There are some in Mission and Aliso Viejo area for sure... Laguna Niguel not so much, I think its because the people are older and I have more "world" experience... They get it - "People are People". It seems strange that here we are in 2009 and this is still an issue for some people. It's disappointing at best. The only good news is that I've found more people friendly and welcoming then otherwise. There are not many Blacks at all here (maybe 1 every 200 persons) and the few I've seen wouldn't as much as speak to me! Which was also surprising and disappointing!! There seems to be no willingness build relationships with other Blacks - and with others for that matter. Nevertheless - I really enjoy the area and hope to stay as long as we can afford it. We've learned where to go, who to do business with, etc... As for me, I love all people - and I would welcome unity here and through out Orange County - and beyond.

Default white out!

The only black people I have seen in my 6 years back in OC were a few going into welfare after hurricane Katrina, and a family of 5 on our street corner with signs asking for help. I don't get why...I think the black people are too smart to put up with the yuppy and crappy people of OC! :-)

Yes, black people do live in Orange County but they are far and few in between. I grew up behind the Orange Curtain and it had an adverse effect on me in many ways. As a young lad, I often found myself as the only Black Person in a room setting and it was not pleasant. While living in Orange County I had to endure the "Walking, Driving, Eating, Living, Breathing While Black" effect from those (White People) who thought they were superior. Because of their prejudices, I became resentful and it made me began to embrace my blackness to the fullest extent. As a result I become somewhat militant. Whenever I walked out of my house, I held my head high with confidence to let the white folks know that I was just as intelligent and capable as they were. My overt confidence got me into a lot of trouble as many of the white folks felt like I was being an uppity negro. Nevertheless, I fought them every step of the way. As a result I was fired from one job by a racist white *****. I later reported her and the company to the department of Fair Housing & Employment. And when I worked for the Walt Disney Company (The Crappiest Place On Earth), I guess they too had a problem with my confidence and intelligence, so they found a way to get rid of me by laying me off. No consideration on their part was taken that I was their top recruiter for Disney California Adventure and Downtown Disney. But when I look back as the situation, it probably was for the best. As for the black folks who live in Orange County, many of them think they have arrived and have lost their way. The brothers exclusively date White Girls and the older generation who have good jobs but serve as the tokens conduct themselves like "House Negro." It truly is a dame shame. Trying to break down the iron orange curtain its really tough if you are black. Orange County is my birth place but when I became a man I packed my bags and got the hell out. I now live in Long Beach which is a world of different. I still have family members who reside in Orange County. The have become complacent and will probably never leave. If I were to ever move back to the OC most likely I will go back with a vengeance and shut down any white person who attempt to enforce superiority upon any person of color. But moving back will not be any time soon. I hope that answers your question.

Yes, there are blacks in O.C. not as many as in so Central L.A or Compton or any part of L.A. county for that matter, but almost everywhere not days have all ethnic, religious and race groups.

There's a problem with labeling all blacks as African Americans. Not all of them are American. It wouldn't be right to call a visiting Nigerian or Ethiopian an "African American".

Of course there are black people in Orange County, and like the poster above me says, not everyone is an "African American".

Bruh 2 the K up there is either really sad or convincing at being someone he is not.

Since this is my first post, I figured I would start with the most rediculous thread.

Yeah, if I ever went back to CA I would go straight down to MLK blvd and shut down any black person who attempt to intimidate me because I'm white!

I don't think you being black is the issue, I think you being borderline retarded is the issue.

I am an african american female from the bay area. I do see african americans every now and then but not like The L.A County area as said before. I too wondered if we were eaten by the alliens.

Buena Park or La Palma.. around 5% Black (probably your best bets for an OC city.)

Then again, it may be reflective of the Black demographics of Cerritos on the LA County side with an even larger % Black.
