Santa Ana used to have a sizeable Black population. Today, the largest number of Blacks living in any commnity in Orange County is in Anaheim.

There are about 8,997 blacks in Anaheim, Anaheim itself has a little over 333,000 residents and blacks make up about 2.7% of Anaheim's population, which might explain why it looks like there aren't many blacks in Anaheim.

I read a National Geographic from December 1981. An article was written about Orange County,CA in that issue. I read that the African-American population in Orange County during that time was about 25,000.

those numbers are not so exact or almost like estimations. There probably are more blacks in Anaheim now idk haven't been to a lot of other parts of that city partly based on those numbers. In Santa Ana seem like the blacks I seen are in like groups or with few other blacks making it seem like there is some around and a lot of the blacks I seen seem sort of comfortable with the place.

No blacks or browns, or yellows, but there are some African Americans and Americans of mixed euro/african ethnic groups!

To OP. Yes there are black folks here. I see them every day, every time I go shopping, all the time.

Nowhere near what you'd see in Atlanta, Memphis, or even LA or San Diego. But yes, blacks are here, LOL!

Just go to any gov't office, say DMV etc. You'll see plenty of blacks.

Geez, even Alaska has lots of blacks. There's nowhere in America save perhaps Utah, Montana, and the like where you don't have good number of blacks. And in those places, since the overall population is small, you'll run into blacks anyway because you don't have 15 grocery stores all over a metro area to go to, etc. Everyone goes to the same places.

SMDH @ some of these responses in this thread.

I'm a young and affluent black female, and I'll moving to a very prominent neighborhood in Irvine next week due to a job relocation, and I'm disappointed that there are not very many blacks (yes, the term is legit) living out here. I'll be damned if I let some silver spoon-fed idiots determine my worth based on my skin color! Where I should live, whether or not I'll encourage my gang banger friends to come with me, etc. How ignorant...

I've spent a considerable amount of time out in OC recently to scope out places and to decide where to live, and everybody out here is the same cookie-cutter, white, blonde, mexican, asian, and that's pretty much it. People pretend to have deeper pockets that what they really do, they're vain as hell (my car is shinier than yours!), and they care deeply about what the next person is doing, wearing...status is everything. I can't even walk down the street without heads turning and necks breaking. I love it!

I'm sure I'll **** people off because I've perpetrated their little perfect neighborhood, but they're just going to have to get used to seeing someone is black. better. and in control. Oh, and I'm not the help. Yeah, I said it.

And if you think this post is ignorant, it's not NEARLY as ignorant as most of you sound in your posts. Deal with it.

@ the bolded: If your GF was black, there's no way you could come to this conclusion, unless of course in her mind and heart she's a white girl. That statement is very racist and has no basis. Reread what you just typed. Think about it.

"and everybody out here is the same cookie-cutter, white, blonde, mexican, asian, and that's pretty much it."

So every person that is white, blonde, Mexican, and Asian are all cookie-cutter? That is funny! So a brunette and blonde and Mexican and Asian are all cookie-cutter, and you are different and stand out because you are black?

It is not because you are black that people are breaking their necks to look at you, it is because you think you are better than all other races. And stating that all whites, Mexicans, and Asians are the same is the most racist remark I have ever heard out of any other person...even a white supremist.

How does it feel to be a racist? Are you proud that you are building all those walls that so many people before you have tried to tear down?

To the bolded, yep, that's what I said. I do stand out because I'm black. Everywhere I go, I'm the ONLY black. When I shop in high end stores, when I go out to eat. I'm the ONLY black. 1 out of hundreds. So yes, I do stand out. Asians are a dime a dozen, whites are a dime a dozen, and latinos are a dime a dozen. Blacks are only common if we are bloods and crips , which there are none in OC (according to this thread).

ETA - who exactly am I to blend in with in Irvine? Who? If people still segregate and bind with their kind (whites stick together, asians stick together, etc) where do I fit in? I become "the black friend" that whites are so proud to have. They can now say, "I'm not racist, I have a black friend and she's AWESOME!" LOL! I become "white approved" and perceived as a non-threat since I'm on par with the rest of the cookies. Just darker.

You have no idea what it's like from this side of the fence.
