After talking to several people, it seems that Belmont Shore would be a great fit. However, as I previously mentioned, finding a shared place seems a little difficult at the moment b/c of lack of availability. Can anyone explain how far beyond the E. Livingston, Ocean, and Bayshore boundaries I can look into? In other words, what are good boundaries for me to keep in mind when looking for a place in the area? Thanks!

my wife commuted from belmont shore to costa mesa (near the 405/55 interchange) before we were married a couple of years ago, it was a 45 minute to 1 hour commute each way even if she took PCH. she only did this because I was living and working in LA at the time and wanted to find a central location between me and her work. although belmont shore is a cool place, if i were you i would stay closer to work. in fact, after looking at your original post, i would recommend newport and huntington over belmont shore. belmont shore is definitely sleepier than NB or HB. not that it is lacking things to do, the bar scene is just much better near the pier in NB or on main st in HB.
also, manhattan and hermosa are way too far of a commute, you would hate it.

Thanks BrinSM. Do you have any idea if the areas in NB or HB that you mentioned are made up of mainly 1br houses, or are there apartment complexes in the area?

PCH, left on 17th, left on Adams, left on Harbor. Done. You're in costa mesa within 25 minutes no matter what the traffic. I do it every single morning.

even if you could get to work in 25 minutes consistenly every day (which also depends on how close to the freeway you live/work), i would still live in the OC beach area.
the beach communities of newport tend to be houses and duplexes. there are some apartments, but most of the people i knew that have lived down there had 2 or 3 roomates. huntington definitely has more options as far as apartments, especially if you want live by yourself in a one bedroom.

Hmmm, how about Seal Beach. I just heard from a friend that they have a pretty decent main st. area. How's it living there?

seal beach is the slowest of all the beach cities. it's very nice but i bet you get bored. That said it's a two minute cab ride from Belmont Shore and a 10 minute cab ride from HB.

We lived in Balboa Villiage (Part of Newport Beach) in our 20s and loved every minute of it. However we are more oriented to outdoor activities than to going ot dance clubs. There are some decent bars/clubs in the area, but dancing is (was?) illegal anywhere that alcohol is served. We got kicked out of Bubbles (now gone) one minute before new years for dancing one year. The police closed the entireplace down because 20 or so people were dancing- annoying then, funny now.
