There are no bargains to be found in Laughlin, NV or Bullhead City, AZ on anything. Not on hotels, not on food, not on the river, nowhere. Hotels overcharge you for any request, and when you advise them that you are interested in using what they offer as an enticement for you to stay there (like the use of Wi-Fi, or the pool) you are told that the Wi-Fi isn't working, or the pool is closed for servicing, and it's all just a lame excuse. Why do they say that you can use a service or facility when they are not willing to maintain it? They do it to sucker you in and burn you for your money. And it's stupid because you are there to spend your money!!! It's not worth a 200-300 mile trip on your own dime for people to go out of their way to make a fool out of you. I'm no fool. I will go stay somewhere with some class.
And none of the above even takes into account how crappy you get treated in Bullhead City, AZ. You get pulled over for tinted windows or something as stupid as the State Name not being visible on your license plate. Tinted windows, o.k. if they are too dark, being pulled over and advised about as much is in order, but they do not give you a fix-it ticket in Bullhead City, AZ. No, they give you a traffic citation that is a $175 fine and a point on your driving record that California observes. Thanks for nothing. And the State Name BS on the license plate means that you can have no license plate cover, not even if it states "Happiness is being on the River".
Don't the cops and casinos understand that without California dollars that place would dry up and blow away? I'm not going to go out of my way and pay to be treated like crap. California has way more beautiful places and better casinos to go to and if the crowds are a concern, I'll use the 3 or 4 hours I would have driven across the desert to wait for something 100 times better. Laughlin and Bullhead City are a joke.

And we wanted to go to Laughlin...why?

And the AZ crazy-cop thing is happening everywhere, as departments race to head off budget cuts with increased revenues via cheesy, expensive citations and fines.
$175 for tint will tell you that.

My folks live in laughlin. I lived there for a few months. I visit every couple months, and I really enjoy it there, and so do my folks.

It is a really nice change of pace from orange county. No traffic, no lines. Excellent deals on food, cheap buffets and prime rib, an amazing buffet at Harrahs.
Go to Harrah's, and watch how every single employee greets you with a hello and a smile. I've never been into a hotel casino with nicer staff, in laughlin or vegas.

If you're there for the casino's, the table minimums and the comp rates are much better than vegas. Granted its not as exciting or glamorous as Vegas, but its nice if you want a more relaxed environment.

Tax and the cost of living is better. Low crime. School classes are very small from what i've heard. I find it hard to believe there arent deals to be had for buyers right now, when I pass entire completed blocks of new empty homes on Needles highway.

Now Bullhead City is a completely different story

The city is plagued with a widespread meth epidemic. It is mostly trashy and run down. The only reason why I go there is to get cheaper gas, or if I need to buy something after hours at the 24hr walmart.

We go to Laughlin a couple of times a year, well now only once because of where we live: the room rates are great, the food prices good the the people at the casinos friendly. I can't imagine what the OPs problem is..

Default Same place?

This thread should be on the Nevada or Arizona forum, but since it is here, will comment because Laughlin is one of my favorite places.Have to wonder if OMO is speaking about the same area that I have been visiting an average of 3 or 4 times a year for the last 2 decades.Laughlin has to be one of the best bargain places to visit in the nation.Hotel rates of $20-$30 a night during the week,$40-$60 on weekends.Inexpensive food, drink, and entertainment. The Colorado river for recreation, and so on.Do concur on Bullhead,in many areas it is run down and dangerous, has a very high crime rate.In the city of Laughlin, the opposite is the norm.In Laughlin, the only real gouging is gasoline prices. On a visit two weeks ago gas was $2.39.9 in town;a quick trip across the bridge into Arizona and filled up for $1.93.9 in Bullhead. Now,if you really want some high prices and rip offs, just spend a few days on the Las Vegas Strip, where lodging is triple and food and drink prices double what they are in Laughlin.

Have been there twice and loved it both times. Take your boat and you have water sports during the day and casinos and shows at night. And yes bargains abound. If you don't like it you can free up some space for the rest of us

great comeback, I guess we all have experiences that turn us against certain things, but for the OP to be bummed because a pool was being serviced. Maintainance has to be done, I would gather this would be the time to prepare for the spring and summer crowds. It sounds more like he was not happy with receiving a ticket, so everything he disliked..

lol a friend of mine went there last week. During the trip her front headlight burned out. She was a couple hundred miles away from home so she can't just stop and get it fixed. She got pulled over three times. The police didn't even care about her reasons. Just fine, fine, fine.

I agree with the OP, AVOID those cities.

was this actually in Laughlin? I doubt it as why would anyone be driving around Laughlin when you can walk almost anywhere? I am sorry, she could have gotten them fixed and did she acutally get a ticket or was she just pulled over? I doubt she got 3 tickets, if she did, certainly she will be able to fight them...
