Default Garden Grove Info Please

Is Garden Grove a bad area for a single female? Why do folks call it "Garbage Grove"? Thanks for your input.

Depends on where. Some parts definitely deserve the reputation but other parts are nice. The far west part, like west of Knott in the 92845 zip is the only part I'd want to live in. There might be other nice pockets in the city, but they'd be much closer to the crap.

I grew up in Garden Grove. The west part is the nicest, but it's also the snottiest. There are nice pockets of the rest of the city. I lived in one of the good areas. Stay away from anything bordering Santa Ana. The border with Westminster depends on the area. The borders with Anaheim also depend on what part. The central area is pretty fine. That is the area by Grove (Garden Grove High School). Of course, that's the area I lived in, so I'm partial to it. In that area there are a few bad places, but you can tell those by looking. There are some very bad apartments on Lampson slightly east of Gilbert. My sister and I also used to live just west of Brookhurst by Brookhurst Elementary. We had no issues there at all. It's called Garbage Grove sometimes, but it is one of nicer parts of that area of Orange County that isn't unbelievably expensive.

yea west garden grove is best. I believe pacifica high school is ranked the highest out of the garden grove district. I live in 92843 zip and the others are right - avoid. 20 years ago it was a decent place to live but as time went by the good neighbors moved out and were replaced by gangsters and slum lords. I swear there is about 15 people living in the house next to me. They have about 7 cars, most of which are vans or large trucks.

the 92843 zip is predominantly Hispanic. My school had 80% Hispanic with 15% asian and about 5% white.

Meanwhile the 92845 zip is about 60% white, 20% Asian, 20% Hispanic.

the west side is completely different from the rest. the income in "west"garden grove is 30,000 higher than rest of city. The rest of the city is a very culturallly diverse area it is not the safest area but i do not mind where i live. many girls i know will not walk the streets at night and i would not recomend it tho. if you are lookin for ethnically mixed and dont mind a little danger, garden grove is cool.

My previous post about the really bad apartments was wrong. The streets are Lampson and Nutwood. Honestly, unless you go to the wrong area or walk alone at night, it really isn't a problem. I would love to live there again, but I am also married.

I was there in the 80s to mid 90s and we teenagers called it Garbage Grove just like you make fun of any city name. Live in Albuquerque, NM now and "lovingly" call it "Albinoturkey".
