I am curious - I loved in the Standard Ave and McFadden apartments back in 1964-1966. It wasn't dangerous back then but later got rreally run down. Now I see that they have redone some of those apartments and tried to clean it up. Has it helped? I know that it is lower income families who live there - but I don't understand why they don't take care of what they have? Also lived in the apartments a little south off Standard/Wilshire/Minnie St. I see those have been rehabbed too. We were just out of high school back then and the rent was cheap - but no one trashed the places.

I have lived in Santa Ana for 3 years now, and I definitely will not deny that there are plenty of bad places to live. However, there are also some REALLY nice neighborhoods with great homeowners, historical and custom houses that have lots of character. One of these is Floral Park, an award winning neighborhood that is probably out of your price range, but you never know, you might find a nice bungalow there, and the location and centrality of it all can't be beat in all of Orange County!

I would have to go look to see where you were talking about. However, in general Santa Ana got really bad through the eighty's and into the ninety's and then it begin to improve. My 1996 Santa Ana was listed as the safest city of its size in United States. it did back slide some since then, but most parts are still pretty decent. There are a few bad areas as noted but even those areas are not as bad as parts of some major cities in United States
