Mercedes and Bmw's are viewed as average cars in Newport Beach. I think to really impress people in Newport Beach, you need to drive a Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, or Ferrari.

Or, if you really want to impress, stack all of the above, one on top of the other, and drive from the top car. You won't be able to see the expressions on the other drivers' faces, but let me tell you! They'll be very impressed!

OR if you really want to impress people in OC drive the Rolls, Bentley, Lamborghini, or Ferrari like you are a 16 year old kid, make sure to rip off the line with every green light, if you see a turn...screech the tires around that bad boy, don't worry about kids! Make it known that you are the boss!
Also don't forget to dress that hot ride up with a custom plate that says something cool like "ldyb8t" or "l8rphrk". Don't feel guilty to obscurely reference your car within any conversation either.
Guaranteed to impress others!

You could always show up in a Station Wagon from the 70's or a VW from the 60's... that would make a lasting impression on me
Impressions are often the greatest when it happens to be the unexpected

Remember Howard Hughes? One of the wealthiest men in the 50's. He always drove around in an old chevy, not wanting to draw attention to himself! 'Old Money" rarely flaunts it!! Who gives a flying fiddlers what anyone thinks in materlistic OC?

Very tersely put and so very accurate. Let me expound upon this profound yet brief statement....
Orange County is a center for the adoration of the all-important 'ego'. It's the "me generation" taken to the Nth degree...

I seriously don't think it matters what you drive as long as it isn't a clunker that will bring down the property value of your neighbors. Newport Beach while desirable isn't that stuck up and you have access to very good restaurants and shopping plus you are close to PCH which runs along the in parts, the ocean and can get you over to other places like HB and Long Beach or Dana Point and San Clemente.
Irvine is a very nice place to live despite the "homogenous" comments it often gets. It's clean, middle to upper class and is very close to NB and Costa Mesa. It has a larger Asian population and a good school district as well as a good technology base.
If you are overly worried about the kind of car you drive because its a few years old and not a "mercedes" I'd do a little digging inwardly and ask myself "ego, why is thoust so fragile?"

According to http://www.city-data.com/city/Newpor...alifornia.html, median home prices in Newport Beach have plunged over the past few years. That is hard for me to believe, because I thought that Newport Beach residents were rich. I thought many of them could pay all cash for their real estate. Am I naive to assume this? It looks like the median prices have dropped 50% from peak to current!!!
If you can live in Newport Beach, you should. It has great weather and beaches.
