Didn't say you felt singled out, but you may feel that way once you move here (every other military relocated family I know has, and I've known many)...let's just fast forward in a few months and see what you're posting then! Hopefully you'll love it here, I'd be interesting to hear your take on it once you have moved in and been around a few weeks!
I'm really glad you've found some great listings...Las Flores is all a new area (past decade or so) and it is a str8 shot on Oso to anything in MV! The market really has dropped since last summer; I'd sign a lease asap, those are great deals!!!! :-D Good luck!!! I'm not certain where the army recruit office is, but if it is in the civic center of MV (next to the police and library), this house is a really great neighborhood to be in for you guys: HotPads.com - Real Estate, Apartments, Homes for Sale and for Rent, Rental Houses, Sublets, Roommates

Hmm that link doesn't look to have posted the direct link as I pasted, lemme try again:
26862 Pueblonuevo Dr, Mission Viejo, CA | Southern California MLS homes for sale | Listing Information
There are tons of kids and 2 schools right next to there (and lots of parks)! I think you mentioned you homeschool, we have a Lakeshore learning store here in Laguna Hills and a great homeschool store in Irvine off of Jeffrey @ Irvine center drive - make sure to ask Lakeshore for your 10% off card for homeschool! The benefit to living actually in MV, versus Las Flores, RSM, etc. is that you will be members to the lake (it is manmade but large) and has a beach, boats, fishing, etc. It's pretty relaxing!

Very good neighborhoods for these three homes specifically. Just pick the one you like best, you have some great finds!
There are parks throughout and neighborhood kids in nearly every house in the neighborhoods of these homes. Lots of bright kids too, with Bathgate Elementary that serves these homes being one of the finest in all of the school district. I know you aren't going to go to the public school, but at least the neighborhood kids do well in school as well.

Tuff,
Sometimes if you are looking for more room, look for 'bonus room' in the description.....it'll be an extra room that can be made into a playroom, school room, library, etc.....

Too expensive!!!
I looked at the link and the house.. Wow!! 1800 square feet is small. I live in a two-story house, three car garage and the upstairs alone is 1882 square feet! The downstairs is another 1800 square ft. The house was built in 2004 and my mortgage payment up here in Washington is $1500.00 a month. I also have a huge yard where my kids can actually have a football game with the neighbors!! And I get a ton of money back on income tax returns for owning a home. Just goes to show you the expense of OC. Sorry but living by a beach that is crowded, dirty and has cold ocean water isn't worth it..
I can't believe what you guys pay to rent and own a home there, ouch...

Likewise, from some points of view, some people would wonder why you would pay anything to live in a small little city far away from major cities. It is just a different perspective. The fact is, you PREFER rural life. You LIKE small towns. You DO NOT like large metro areas. Many people DO NOT want to live in small cities and may people need the jobs of an metropolitan area. I've lived in Yuma, AZ and Pensacola, FL for example. Could I get a bigger home there? Yes, I could probably sell and buy a mansion. But then I would have to spend my life in Yuma!
Just curious, what are your opinions on other large metro areas like New York City, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix, Philadelphia, etc.... Would you live in those??? I'm just curious if you fundamentally do not like developed large metro areas. All of these have more crime, traffic, higher costs of living, crowds, density, etc... than a small city or rural area.
I respect for you that it was more important to have the big large home on the hill than to live in a larger developed area, but some people wouldn't sacrifice metro area amenities for small city life. I just honestly don't see how you can keep comparing what you get in a rural area to Orange County. I'm sure everyone is well aware that is costs a lot more for a smaller home in California, just like everybody knows a studio apartment in Manhattan in New York City is still going to cost a ton because it is NYC.

All right let me explain. First of all do you think Mission Viejo is big???
Here are some statistics. And by the way I DON'T like to live in small rural towns.
New York--8,274.527
Chicago--2,836,658
Portland--575,930
Hillsboro Oregon (suburb of Portland)-- 84,533
Irvine-- 124,000
Mission Viejo--94,000
Spokane Washington--462.677
I lived in Portland and now live in Spokane. You can hardly call these rural areas, right?? They are medium sized towns. Not big metropolitan areas like Chicago or NewYork but neither is OC either. There is more people in Spokane Washington than Mission Viejo. So who is living in a rural area? My point is... you guys are paying almost 2/3 more rent/mortgage to live in a jungle than someone who is living in a decent sized cities with just as many amenities than your so called metro area. Your not thinking. I don't live or want to live in a town of 11,000 people and I don't which is by the way what I would consider rural. It is obvious that you have never been anywhere else.
I just have a very hard time believing that the prices are like that down there. For what?? A bumper to bumper ride on the freeway to the beach? It doesn't make sense to me.
If you want to live in a Sardine can and pay that kind of money go for it.. I think OC is a downright rip-off to be perfectly honest with you.
