Hi you two..
To missionhome and mommyntheoc,
By the way, I happen to like Mission Veijo and all the cities south of Irvine. At the time I was one of the unfortunate ones who couldn't afford to live there. I was always depressed to go there (visiting friends) and then have to go back to my slum neighborhood (no not really but the surrounding areas felt like it). If and only if I absolutely had to go back to OC I would live in those cities south of Irvine even if I had to seriously downsize. I don't think I will ever go back (hopefully not) but I would stay away from those places that have too many problems. There are many nice people in OC and I feel for them. They are amidst a lot of negativity and headache, especially on the Freeways...Yuk!! Happy days for both of you. Think on good things and enjoy your beautiful cities. You are truly blessed to be able to afford to live there..

Seems pretty right and makes some sense could you be more specific? You mean everyone in socal?

No.. I am not really talking about people in general just the crime, discrimination, graffiti, bad neighborhoods, cement everywhere, smog, traffic problems and the feeling like you live in a human zoo. Too many people cramped up in one space. LOL.. Kind of like the old guns and roses song "Welcome to the zoo" I wonder if they were referring to OC or LA. Just a thought, it would be kind of interesting to find out.

Los Angeles was the nation's third safest large city in 2006. San Diego was fourth. SoCal is actually relatively safe. Unless you live in Compton, the biggest concern is traffic and affordability.
New York still safest big city in U.S. - Crime & courts- msnbc.com

As a 50 year+ NorCal resident (Bay Area) I can't comment on SoCal issues, but I can only hope the mass exodus from the state continues for awhile longer so CA can regroup, get the finances and COL under control, and move forward again. This isn't the first time this has happened here, and it wont be the last. Fortunately a rebound is ALWAY on the horizon . The reason CA will never be 'over' is location, location, location. No matter what happens here it's still the place everyone really wants to be. Unfortunately not everyone will be able to afford it because desirable locations always come a a cost. We seem do to a purge like this every 20 years or so.

That may be changing. While the weather and the coast are appealing, Baja Mexico has the same weather and coast and no one is moving there. California is changing in character. The government is a complete mess and completely broke. Southern California has become heavily innundated with illegal and legal immigrants from Mexico and south/central America. Although that is not necessarily a bad thing, it does reduce the appeal of California to people from other states and to some of the people who live there now. Between the faltering reputation of the area, the out of control costs, the government mees, the lack of water and other problems, the national appeal of California has fallen. If the area has lost its mass appeal, it may not regain it unless the problems/concerns are resolved. The issues that people are looking for are chainging and available water and good schools are becomming top prioities. California has a shortage of both. It is hard to say. However there is so much momentum going in California that if there is a reversal, it will probably not be significantly noticable in our lifetimes.

Aww...thanks! I hadn't noticed that before about the location!
Yup, been on city data for awhile, just was using it for my own exploring of other cities up until now...I thought I might be able to help give back to the commmunity by helping others on OC...and then I read some of the things on here and realized it was very one-sided, so I felt like I should dedicate some time to help balance the view - since every story has 2 sides, or more! :-) Thanks!

Moulton Niguel Water District just sent out a notice to us that says on July 1st they are cutting back water supplies again...I think it said another 20% reduction! Our water has already gotten to hard (high mineral content) in the last 9 months from them stopping ground filtration...and now they are cutting off more water. Our water bill is only $20/month as we don't use very much ($10 of that is sewer)...but for many other people, I think this will really affect them...next it will be water rationing!
