Default Moving to Newport Beach Area

Hello,

Moving to the Newport Beach Area in a few months -- due to a new job. I've been looking at apartments online -- but don't find it to be as helpful as I would like. Does anyone have information on good places/bad places to live? ie. certain apt communitites? how easy to find apartment that isn't corporate? Do most offer parking included or extra? Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Not sure how much you are willing to spend...rents are very high here. Your best bet for the nicest places to live is looking at what the Irvine Company has available. The Irvine Comp owns just about all the land in OC and they have beautiful apt complexes with a variety of amenities in the Newport Beach/Irvine area. Suggest you start there with this website ..........

http://www.rental-living.com/

That will at least get you started. When I moved out here 10yrs ago, that is how I found my apt. Good luck.

I have looked at this before -- I guess I'm wondering if it is as nice as it really looks. I'm looking for one bedroom and am expected to find something around 1200-1700. Don't want to spend much more than that. Just hoping these places are worth the money! Can't find a great site with reveiws for apartments in the area.

try www.craigslist.org -In larger complexes parking spots are just about guaranteed.

Beware: Many apartments on Balboa Peninsula rely on street parking. You might want to check on the situation before deciding to rent.

The apts owned by the Irvine Company are really, really nice. I lived at Promontory Point when I first moved here, but looked at many others. It is very upscale living here and I just never saw a dumpy apt complex. I am sure they exist, just never saw one. That said, I would still come out and look at the place before signing a lease. Not sure of rents these days as I own a home, but I know they are high. For a bit lower rents, you may want to check out Costa Mesa. I lived there for a while as well before I got married and it is very convenient to almost everything and adjacent to Newport.

I just moved to Newport Beach about 6 weeks ago, and after looking at many options before moving, I found that renting from a private owner is a much better deal than an apartment complex. Check ocregister.com/classified as well as craigslist. If you're in the market for a 1-bedroom, a condo from a private owner may be a much better deal than an apartment if you can find one.

Having said that, the apartments around here appear to be very, very nice and upscale, not like apartments in other cities.

If you ARE open to Costa Mesa, I live in Eastside which is a decent area that's easily accessible to/borders Newport. In this area, there are a LOT of places that have For Rent signs posted out front that didn't come up in my searches on any sites (rental sites, craigslist, etc). My roommate and I just drove the area and called numbers on the places we liked and that's how we ended up in our current location.

Good point. You're going to find a LOT more places just by driving and looking for "for rent" signs than you'll find in the classifieds!! Eastside Costa Mesa is a great area, it's on the Newport border and is practically the same thing.

Well, I've been living in the Irvine Apartment Communities for 2 year now and they are as nice as the website says. In most of them you don't have to worry about parking because you have your own personal garage. Most come with Washer/Dryer in unit, central air/heat, and alarm system. When you renew your least the 2nd time with them you get 3% off market rent and that increases 1% every year after that to a max of 6%. Some of them even have granite counter tops. You won't be dissapointed in IAC properties just go look at them and you'll be happy. The only thing is you get what you pay for so it's a bit pricey but worth it.
