EscapeCalifornia, instead of being sarcastic/condescending, why dont you help explain to me how much renting/purchasing a lot WOULD be, or where to find some affordable housing? You dont have to mock me simply because I'm trying to practically and meticuously plan out my future. At least I didnt just jump in a car and drive here, correct?
So what makes you think California is the place to be given those two requirements?

I'm not mocking you. I'm giving you reality. Reality is that California, especially coastal Orange County, is one of the most expensive places to live in the country. Land is extremely expensive, more so the closer you get to the beach. There's no open lots to buy. You buy .15-.25 acre lots with a house on it and pay hundreds of thousands for it. If you want cheap land to buy and put a mobile home on, you'll have to go out in the desert but then there's no economy to support yourself with. The closest thing to affordable housing around here are two bedroom apartments for about $1500+ per month. A three bedroom house would run you $2200+/mo to rent.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the terms, "liberal government" and "ideal business environment" are mutually exclusive. California has a very poor business climate due to high costs, over-regulation, nanny government and an increasingly under-educated work force. Currently it also has high unemployment which should lead one to conclude that the business environment is none too rosy.

And this is why you need to go to college. God, major in business administration or informations systems. Make sure you take a few courses in logic/debate.

Your thought process is just horribly/insanely flawed.

I don't know of one person that would describe California as having an "ideal business environment" and few that would believe that a liberal government would be conducive to private business. Heck, our state government can't even figure out how to spend less than it receives.

And the area you are looking at moving to is one of the most expensive parts of the United States. Escape California and Curmudgeon's advice is dead on.

So you want to move to a place less conservative than Missouri and you chose the HB, huh?

Swing and a miss. That city is represented in Congress by one Dana Rohrabacher, a pot smoking, surfing conservative Republican and former OC Register columnist who has in the past palled around with the Taliban (called them "a stabilizing force in the region") who has also referred to the HB PD as "stormtroopers." Oh, and his wife Rhonda is a convicted felon. This guy has just about cornered the market on crazy. Despite that, the folks there seem just fine with returning him to Congress every two years because of the "R" next to his name even with a recent expose about his ties to a man connected to the Chinese Red Army.

And that is before you get to HB's Nazi skinhead problem (they especially like to hang around Old World).

Yeah, the weather rocks there and for a young person a pretty good hangout (the surfing ain't bad, either) and you don't get that holy roller vibe like you do in your state, but the water is often polluted, too.

All the beach cities in OC are pretty conservative (though Laguna has its arty side). So if you want liberal you have to think L.A.
