Question SWM relocating to Orange County

Moving to Orange County in a few months. Have some general questions.

I will be working in Newport.

Where would be the best place to live(renting)? I am 27, so would like to be around young professionals(don't know anyone in the area). I like to go out alot. Looking to spend up to $1500 for rent. However, I would prefer not to spend this much.

What is the local county tax? How much is car registration?

Any suggestions?

HousingMaps is a quick and dirty tool for rentals

Is there a county tax???? Not sure.

Not sure about car registration...try the CA DMV.

You'll be able to find a nice one bedroom apartment for less than that anywhere in Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, or probably even Newport Beach. There's no county income tax but sales tax is 8.75% currently. The state income tax varies from 1-9%. Typically, by the time you're making enough to live on your own, you're in the 7% bracket or so. That's the marginal rate, not the average rate though. Google California income tax rates to see how much you'd be paying based on your income. Car registration costs vary with age and original price of the vehicle. It could be $75 or it could be $600+.
