Default where to live w/commute to pomona

I am planning on attending WesternU for a masters in physician assistant program in Pomona. We will be relocating from the midwest and would like to live in OC. We have 4 kids so we would like a family area with great schools and not tremendously far from the beach. I am curious about the commute to Pomona and am willing to put up with a commute because the program is only two years. My husband is a physician so he will most likely join a practice close to wherever we decide to live. We would definitely rent! Thanks for any advice/info.

Yorba Linda, Brea. If you don't need to live in OC, then Diamond Bar and Walnut would be outstanding choices as well. Claremont too, though that's north of Pomona and a farther drive to the beach.

I second that. Those are your best choices.

Not sure where in YL you're looking but its nearest fwy is 91 which is always loaded at rush hours.

I lived in Brea for many years and used to drive through Pomona on my commute to Montclair about 8 years ago. I'd be in Pomona in about 40 minutes in the a.m. I doubt that has improved any.
God help you if you are headed that direction in the afternoon.

Depends on which beach, but typically 20-40 minutes at 6:00am, 1-2 hour in the summertime on the weekend after 10:00am.

I'd be looking at Brea or Diamond Bar/Walnut myself if I were you.

If you want a much easier commute, find a place specifically in the Phillips Ranch area of Pomona (zip code 91766, west of the 71). The community is family oriented, diverse, and with good schools.

Don't consider any other part of Pomona, however.

I would have suggested Glendora, but seeing you want to be nearer the beach, there are lots of cities in OC that would work. YOu say, you do not mind a commute, what do you mean, 30 min, an hour, or what?

We would be relocating from Minneapolis so I just want to move once and not put my children through another move two years later. We want to find a place where we could stay and the kids could build friendships and get connected. What would the commute from Irvine area be to Pomona? The first year of the PA program is classroom but then the 2nd year are clinicals which I believe I could arrange to have them closer to home. I can do anything short term. How bad do you think the commute would be?

If you want to keep any sense of sanity, take Irvine off the table.

If the beach is that important, try Fullerton, etc. If it were up to me, I'd stay closer to Pomona and drive to the beach on weekends.
