Default Irvine Drivers - Unusually Fast?

I just moved to Irvine , from a small town near Whittier, CA. Every time I am driving anywhere in Irvine, I am nearly always tailgated or cut-off - constantly. This ranges from the normal offenders (eager young drivers) to everyone in between (elderly, male, female, middle-aged). I never had this issue in other areas in CA before.

I am not a SLOW driver, don't accelerate slowly and usually speed up to the speed limit + 5mph or so. The fact that I don't slam on the accelerator at stop signs/green light seems to irritate everyone - even unmodded 1990 Civics seem to push their RPMs to 6k every time the light turns green.

Why is this? Am I the only one noticing this?

Try driving in the left lane on Culver some time. Everyone there seems to do 10mph under the speed limit.

I noticed the same thing when I first moved here. People think that 7 feet between your bumper and theirs is enough. It's very arrogant to me. Then they pass you, to go 56 instead of the 53 you're maintaining, and end up at the next stop light...right next to you. It doesn't matter if you're going 10 MPH over, there will be some aggro driver up your butt. It's one of my least favorite parts of life here.

Depends on what part of Texas.

In Houston, they drive faster and more insane on those beautiful racetrack freeways. SoCal freeways generally don't feel like that due to topography or the excessive congestion in L.A.

I'm very happy to see I'm not the only one who is experiencing this i will continue to not kill my engine by pushing it so hard and i'll happily let everyone cut me off.

Well what adds to the impatience is that the traffic lights in Irvine are not set very well to let traffic flow smoothly. Here around LAX where I work the traffic lights are perfectly set to allow a good flow of traffic.

LOL! Where I'm at in Texas they drive slow as molasses too. I hate it.

Then when I go to Newport I get run down (especially on Jamboree) and I would consider myself a fast driver! I consider myself a Californian so I'm used to fast driving but boy oh boy you can get run down in some of those areas. I think a lot of it has to do with sight seeing too. The locals in Irvine/Newport are just going from point A to point B and they are used to the area and all. It's funny though. It's not just one car going fast, they all are, old, young it doesn't matter. Oh and on PCH leaving Corona Del Mar heading to Laguna Beach....pedal to the metal there too (forget about looking at the ocean). I'll just stay to the right until I get used to it.
