Lets talk about business
So I can't post the business or website but I just started one and was wondering some good ways to get the word out in OC. I have lived here for three years BTW not just a fly by.
Do you have your own business BTW and if so how is the ability to market here in OC?

Depending on what type of business you're in will determine what type of marketing you should do.

It's a website and monthly publication that only lists businesses in Orange County. I thought about it when I was talking to someone about how much better the business journal could be. I mean it's obvious they are too influenced by the Irvine company and don't allow user reviews to our extent. Rather news, this is a place for people to search a business or field and see what other had to say about them.
This is more of a Yahoo local type thing that is just for Orange County and more based on the user reviews of each business.
We will advertise locally with a generous budget and I came up with passing out fliers to businesses and a page add in the OC Register. This is besides the standard BBB and coc registration. The beta version of the website is here www.ocfocus.com but that's only half of the concept.

Once you get started you could collaborate with other media such as Red County Magazine, OC Weekly, Daily Pilot etc.. or perhaps they would consider buying you out in the long-run.
I started an internet business five years ago. It was made successful mostly by word-of-mouth, and self-promotion on forums like this. I focused on delivering unique information to a very specific target market.
For getting the word out, I highly recommend that you work hard to get this website as one of the top ranks in Google searches. You could get started just buy going on Ebay and searching for "Page ranks".. From .99 cents to $25 dollars, purchase some directory links, rss feeds, page ranks, ..OCfocus should get massive hits if you do it right. Do some research on search engine optimization( if you haven't already). It may help. It worked for City-Data.

I just looked at your website. I like it, and I came up with a few ideas for you. This may sound ambitious, but I think you should start by adding businesses by yourself. That information on your site to help draw visitors. Take City-Search.com as an example: -It provides the basic information(address, phone number, name, and type of business), and then the company can then pay to have their company "featured," updated, and add additional info. I don't know what your plans are. I'm sorry if this sounds totally out-of-wack

Are you crazy I love the help, and we are really on the same page. Free listings for the first year maybe for life and just charge for featured listing.
City search is the closest thing to it I have found and they do a good job actually.
I will definably check SEO and ebay links. I was thinking about paying someone to go to businesses and sign them up through a laptop and cell phone internet access. The problem there is the owner probably won't be there.
So on that note probably dropping off a nice brochure will be more effective. I already signed up for BBB and the Chamber OF Commerce.
Also my Birthday is in a hour the big 32
