lol to further summarize my reasoning behind the post please listen to this recent event that happened to me at a nice "classy" bar near fashion island.
I went to sit down at the bar and I am a 26 yr old guy and next to me is this pretty mid 30's woman. She showed me a sigh of relief as I guess an older guy was annoying her and she was thrilled to see a young buck as this bar is mostly older people. Anyway, I ask her if she likes golf and she looks down, I'm like what are you doing? She points to her breasts and says "I can't play golf, my chest is too big" Low and behold the lady has a 34d implant job that she squeezed together and pretended to do a golf swing. She kept harping on it for the rest of the conversation about "o this surgeon is the best he did all my girl's breasts, he is so great, do you need anything done?" LOL Here is the best part... a few minutes later before I got totally turned off she pulls another typical of OC comment. She points out some older guy (60ish) to me and says see that guy, I love him! I thought she meant like in a cute way, nice older guy, friendly. But she told me "no, I want to f*** him!" I am like WHATTTT?! She said "yea, he is part owner and I am attracted to men with status." There you have it, pretty much explains my problems out here!
I am not used to this at all, I guess if you find this normal or it doesn't bother you at all then YOU have an issue. I think this should disgust anyone, don't you agree?

Replying to twinkle toes, you asked where am I hanging that is putting me in these situations where I find the personalities of people sub-par and irritating. Well my daily routine is pretty much go in to the office 6am go grab some lunch in the fashion island area around 1 then go back and leave office around 4 or 5 then play some golf then go to a restaurant in newport like wildfish or bluewater grill or ritz or 3 thirty 3 or wherever, then i come home and relax. My daily encounters where I feel this attitude or personality defect can be scene when I am shopping at the grocery store, or sitting on a date with a girl by the questions she asks me, or how some random starts a convo with me right away with "soooo what do you do?" am i the only person who finds that offensive? i feel like i am being qualified to make sure i am worthy of their time, don't you agree or no?

the sad and bizarre thing is that at church i see girls and women dressed like absolute sluts, it is a true embarassment. i am trying to get to church to get right with God but yet I am surrounded by people dressing slutty/provactively in a church atmosphere= doesn't make sense.

ok on to velocity sport's comment, clearly this came from a bright person. calling me uneducated and stating that california has the wealthiest and all the athletes. also saying only the strong and smart stay in cali. what a ridiculous comment. regarding strong, i personally feel anyone coming from a harder life or a place with more culture is going to be much stronger and would have experienced life's goods but also its bads. out here everyone is so jaded b/c they are accustomed to the perfect life. i don't put blame on anyone for their actions, i truly believe it is because people are brought up in wealth, are pampered from a young age, and have little chance to chance their though process and become a bit more down to earth or self righteous. too many people are corrupted by the magazines, media, ideal lifestyle, demand for everyone servicing them, and making them feel important.

i could be wrong but to me a good life is maybe having a great home, a wonderful family that you don't divorce in and out of every year, a car that gets you around, and a stable run business or career. it seems to common that out here people will go for broke to own the 7 series bmw while they still rent an apartment?! does that make sense to you? not to me. again im sorry to sound like i am bashing everything but really i am trying to get some feedback from people out there maybe who can relate to my comments or maybe those who can't relate that can provide some positive feedback to help me change my thoughts or learn to adapt/understand the differences compared to what im used to or expect from people, relationships, and my lifestyle.

i ask again, is san diego as superficial, money/car driven, status driven as orange county? also what about in oc, are there other spots that are maybe a bit more frugle or who put less emphasis on your status, car, or zip code? please help. i was going to move to sd originally but then chose newport b/c of the upscale lifestyle i thought it possesed but right now im second guessing myself wondering if i may be more suited for somewhere else in cali.
my main priority is the WEATHER second is good people. please advise, thank you!! and ps about the "blowing off steam thing" i guess my computer was running slow and i typed it 3x by accident, i know that made me sound like an idiot haha. thank you for your feedback!

Wow! Where to begin???!!!

Okay, Dakicka, here's a start. You're talking about some mid-30's broad with fake t-its. Where did you meet her? IN A BAR!!!!! Duh! You aren't likely to find quality people in those places.

Why not start meeting people through hobbies you are interested in? You said you liked to golf. Is there any way you could meet people out on the golf course/range who would be "normal"?

Another thing you said kind of piqued my interest. You mentioned that you chose to move to Newport Beach because of the wealthy, affluent image and lifestyle. If you came here for those reasons, what did you expect? I'm not trying to be mean, but if you went there for those reasons, others are probably there for the same reasons as well. It sounds awfully materialistic and fake of you to move to an area known for its materialism and expect the people who live there NOT to be snobby, fake and materialistic.

BTW, not everyone in OC grew up with a silver spoon in their mouths. I grew up in Newport Beach. I didn't come from a wealthy family, but I went to college and sacrificed the "party years" so that could be pretty well off as an adult. So, don't think that everyone you see came from money. Some of them worked their a-sses off to get there.

Maybe in Ventura County (or perhaps Imperial Beach in SD county right by the Mexican border, which I remember as being unpretentious and blue collar, although I haven't been there in years - it may have changed) There aren't any in LA or Orange counties. Even Venice, in LA County, is filled with pretentious, snobish, money centered, wealth concerned, get ahead mindset, plastic infatuated people, and Venice and Newport Beach are about as opposite as you can get. It's a SoCal thing.

So I am gathering from a few of the posts in reply to my message that the personality I am describing of "self-centered, materialistic, money-centric, get-ahead driven" attitude is primarily a so-cal thing? Obviously this does not apply to everyone i so-cal, but it sounds like more of a majority then an anomole. Here is a valid point, why are there so many "hate messages" about orange county and in san diego it is more threads to help people and the general consensus is that people love living there? i am only posting all this stuff to try to get feedback on people to see if san diego is a bit more down to earth for me, someone who hails from the east coast. i did know that this area was affluent and apparently high class before moving here, but the class is only high economically, i dont think MOST of the people are that high class socially and emotionally. it just seems like everyone is too busy to spare a second for someone else, and the ol principal of do unto others as i would have them do onto you (the golden rule) is exempt in orange county. i am baffled. please someone, can you point me in a direction in orange county that maybe is a bit less high maintenance/materialistic then newport beach? i love the weather out here and really want to make it work but i will not subject my life and potential family down the line to an upbringing of money reigning their life and cars being a focus to happiness. i believe a good family, strong faith in God, and good friends is more important than making 200K/yr instead of 250/K yr lol and maybe having the honda accord vs the bmw 5 series geez.

PS, one thing I do NOT MISS about NJ/NYC is the crazy idea that everyone is or wants to be italian. it is so strange. i kid you not the question out there is "so whats your nationality" and girls want to see if you are italian, its very very weird! i think part of it is b/c girls/people assume you are in the mob or a bad-ass because you are italian, its funny. much of the sopranos is INDEED TRUE, no kidding about that. life is really like that in a lot of nj and nyc. it is more hidden and not as exposed to the general public, but if you ever lived there u know that just about every club is owned ultimately by the mob and many restaurants are, and corruption REIGNS in NJ. So i do NOT miss that part of life, nor do i miss the terrible humidity!!! The summers were VERY fun though and I looked forward to 'em, but man it is AWESOME to have YEAR ROUND SUMMERS out here in california now!!

dakicka,

I have lived here my entire life, what you have described in your 6 months living here is "SoCal", that is it.
Beautiful place, ugly behaving people. Just go to Fashion Island any day of the week to see the intersection of all that is fake in SoCal.

I went school in Boston, and discovered what true humanity is like. I assure you, you are ok, this place is the problem.

So just don't buy the BMW! I don't have one and I don't feel the need to have a car define who I am or what I stand for. I will admit to having a really sweeeeet 1970 muscle car though! LOL

Seriously, just be yourself and you will attract normal people like yourself. You're gonna find fakery everywhere you go. Just don't let it get to you. Just hold your head high and be proud of who you are and what you stand for and what you value. You will meet other people who are sincere and down to Earth! YOU WILL!!!!!

thanks for the confirmation that it isn't me! i would like to think my personality is very good, but out here it doesn't seem like your personality is of much significance. i guess though the law of attraction is partially true, however i do not want to isolate myself from the town i live in, i would like to be able to mingle and like/appreciate people, but i fee it is hard with most of the people's motives and values.

Maybe you need to branch out a little bit and find some different places to hang out. I mean, that list of places you mentioned that you like to hang out I would avoid like the plague! That would be like going to the Strip in Vegas and forming and opinion of the whole town based on what you observe there. Every major city in the world has their islands of wealth where you will find people who believe their bank accounts define them. EVERY CITY. Why don't you go check out Huntington Beach, Downtown Fullerton, Seal Beach, Old Town Orange or any other number of places that aren't within a "five iron" of Fashion Island....then report back to us what you find. You may be surprised a bit.

Lardog, thanks for the feedback. can anyone recommend to me (based on my posts) an area or a few ideas on areas that might be more appropriate for my wants and needs? thank you.
