Someone wrote on my car today in HB (pics inside)
I don't know if this is some wannabe gangsta or someone bored person carving their initials... I live in an apartment complex and most likely this is one of my lovely neighbors. (I don't know which one and no, I don't think it's the ones I wrote about in the other thread, it could be ANYONE since its a BIG place).
I actually did call the HB police dept and they said it's not vandalism since the person didn't do any property damage. I don't think there's much they can do anyways.
Can anyone read this ish? What does it say? BYM? Is this some new gang I've never heard of? I grew up in the 90's so I know of the older old school gangs but there's new kids popping up everyday, who knows wtf this is... What does the initials BYM shand for?
And yes my car is dusty but I don't care. Just because I don't wash my car doesn't mean other people have the right to write on it...
And no, there aren't any surveillance cameras around. It's a big complex, it could be anyone.
Should I take it seriously? Was it random or targeted? I wonder why the other cars were not written on but just mine... Could it be because perhaps mine was dirty and the rest weren't?

Count your blessings. At my complex they do it in permanent marker.

Should I be alarmed? Would you file a police report if someone did this to you or would you ignore it?

I'd take it as a sign to wash my car, and make sure I had comprehensive coverage.

I'd ask to talk to a member of the gang detail to see if they were interested in the symbology, and if it meant anything at all to them.

I doubt this would even rise to the level of vandalism, and if it were me I'd just wash the car, be thankful they hadn't decided to go to work on it with a marker or worse, and forget about it.
But even if they had done worse, I don't think I'd report it. It isn't uncommon for kids to scrawl their real names on cars ("tagging") as part of gang initiations. They know that you know that they can just as easily come back and really do some damage to your car if you report them, and are just waiting for you to do so. That's why my roommate didn't file a police report when they did it to his car.

It reads BAM and it might be the kid's initials. Make sure the police have this evidence so that they can match up the tags with other vandalism incidents.

Yes, I can read gang signs. The translation of this particular writing is "Wash me. My owner is too lazy to turn on a hose."
Are you serious? You put your car out in public in that condition and let it appear as if it is abandoned. You disrespect your own property then wonder why other people join in. Your car is an attractive nuisance. You're bringing down property values. If some little gangster wannabe didn't write on the accumulated filth, some one else would have. I GUARANTEE you that if you parked that heap on a residential street in Corona del Mar, people would write messages on it too.

1. wash your car if you don't want this to happen. kinda like leaving an ipod in plain sight in your car. you WILL get your window broken.
2. if you are worried, as others have suggested send these pics to a gang unit in HB. maybe not a report, but just so they have a record of activity in the area. my guess however, is that it was some punk kid. they could have keyed, knifed, or painted, your car but they didn't...

that is the least annoying graffiti i have ever seen in my life - easily washable - count your blessings indeed!
but people do have the right to have a dusty car and i can see why would be kind of upset. probably just some kids messing around - doesn't seem to be gang related
