Yikes...Im talking about that other thread with the guy who works in the arts moving to LA. Oops.

Anyway, Oakland is more than riots.

Socialization is much nicer when the hood is far, far away, LOL!
I prefer living here to some sanitized boring suburb.

I want to live somewhere that is decent but it doesn't have to be perfect. I lived in Redwood City for 3 years and found it tolerable. My problem is that I have very little knowledge of So Cal and from what it seems that there are pockets of nice areas that are pretty much all a stones throw from the gehtto/barrio. I would like to be near somewhere that has night life as I am single. My prospect areas are Torrence, Burbank, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Anahiem, or somewhere in LA. I'm looking for a condo in the 200k range. I'm overwhelmed can someone please help?
OK, so I haven't lived in So Cal for about 4 years now so I hope you don't mind my two cents:

I'm not sure about Redwood City but I can say you're right about there being pockets of nice areas in Los Angeles. I would say the areas you chose (Torrence, Burbank, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Anahiem) with the exception of maybe Garden Grove / and parts of Anaheim) aren't bad. Fullerton is a great suburb of the OC and depending on what kind of night life you're looking for can be cool (Cal State Fullerton is close by).

Burbank is another one I'd recommend if you're looking to stay in Los Angeles county. Remember, if it's night life you're looking the OC & Los Angeles both have great night life! I guess it all depends on your style and preferance. Los Angeles tends to be more eclectic-artsy where as Orange is more on the beachy side. Seeing as I don't know you I'm going to guess here and say beachy for you. In that being said I would recommend Orange County/Long Beach/the South Bay. Cities like:

Fullerton
Costa Mesa
Huntington Beach
Long Beach (Belmont Shores)
Torrance
Redondo Beach
Burbank
Glendale
West Los Angeles

note: Be careful! Cities like Long beach, Anaheim have extremes. You can go from really nice to ghetto in the blink of an eye.
