Better gorgeous women going, "...like, like, like you know..." than gang bangers going, "...I be bussin a cap upside yo head..."
Feel free to head for a "diverse" spot, like, say Compton, then come back and tell me how like terrible Newport is.
Only problem is, it costs mondo to like, live in Newport.
As always, you gotta buy your freedom from the hood these days.

this is made up. The song "Valley girl" with Frank Zappas daughter was meant to poke fun at the locals but it was extremely exaggerated (She even said so in an interview). Then it just became trendy to talk that way. Other then "Dude" or "Totally" whatever, the rest of this lingo is made up for the films. Anyone who talks this way in real life is just trying to show off.

Ironically, I know grown adults that still say "Dude". I slip into it occasionally. Usually around aging surfers, since I used to surf. No doubt it's a media spread thing.
But then your basic southern accent is a reality as well. Perhaps the media will exaggerate it some, but it really is a real and pervasive thing.

Yeah, I noticed that when I was down in the south. But the outer lined communities did have people talking with a real southern drawl

Sadly, it's REAL

I live in Orange County, and these reality shows are based on reality. Of course they are hyped-up and dumbed-down and drama concentrated, but the language is the most real part of all. In fact I use these shows to teach conversational English. I don't encourage my students to talk like that of course, but it's helpful to a recently-arrived high school student to know how words are used and mis-used by their peers.
