Mostly Beaches, bars healthclubs, churches. However you are also likely to meet someone while hiking, shopping, politicing, all over. Boating is a great way to meet people as well. You just need to get out a lot and get involved in everything that you can. Of course if you look just like Barbie, then just go to the beach in a bikini and they will come to you. Laguna Beach might get frustrating for you (too many nice good looking guys with no ring - and no interest in women). It was a great place for straight guys when I was single. Since there was a shortage of straight guys, I could normally find a date in a few hours.

Orange County has all types of people and they are out doing all sorts of different things. It is an active place. Unfortuantely it also has a bit of a shallow and materialistic atmosphere. Thus, many men are looking for skinny, tall, blonde large chested women, preferably with a great career; while many women are looking for a guy with an income in the half million plus range. While this is not universally true, it is pretty widespread here, more so than other places that I have been. Still there are pletny of nice, non-shallow guys there. If you are either reeally pretty (and thin) or a remakable, fun and outgoing person, you should have no problems finding as many dates as you want. Sorting them out good from bad will be the bigger problem. On the otherhand if you are shy and reclusive, then it will be difficult (just like anywhere).

Orange COunty is one of those places that young people tend to flock to, so you tend ot find a younger than average population here.

Minor suggestion. Do not call Orange COunty "The OC" and do not call California "Cali" A majority of residents seem to passionately hate both of those terms.

Thanks CJ ---- okay if I call you that??? Will take heed of my OC and Cali lingo when around Californians. I have spent a few days now reading the posts on the Orange County forum and San Diego forum........and it seems like San Diego will be more my scene. More affordable (which is very important) and kind of has it's own identity. I lived in LA for about a year and a half 10 years ago......and know for certain that I don't want to live there again. I hear that Orange County is a beautiful place, but I'm also hearing that San Diego is just as pretty.......and with it being more affordable, I'm sure there will be more opportunities to get out and enjoy it by getting involved. I am a tennis player so I'm hoping San Diego has some good tennis leagues that I can join.

Thanks SO MUCH much for taking time to post..........amazing how generous people are on this site with their time and thoughts!!!

Perhaps try a meet up group (depending on what you are into). Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup.com

Although I chose to live in Orange County, I always liked San Diego better in many ways (but not in every way). There is more going on, yet it has retained some of that sleepy slow paced lifestyle that it had until the late 1980s when it exploded with growth. Plus it gets more sunshine and it is cheaper. There are downsides, but it is a really great place. Your singles scene will be heavily military. I suppose the good side of that is that the guys will be in generally better physical shape and more down to earth, but they will also have lower incomes (and then there is the whole running off to get shot at thing).

When you get a chance, visit the beaches and sea caverns at La Jolla and also visit the Del Coronoado hotel on Coronado Island. Actually just save up and got for a getaway weekend on Coronado. Probably not much of a dating scene there, but a really pleasant place. You can also duck down to Rosaroti Beach in Mexico for a fun weekend. (Bring friends and antibiotics, - do not go alone and be careful where and what you eat, but it is fun).

The neat thing about San Diego is that you can ride the train around the City and avoid the nastiness of parking and traffic (IMO the bane of a pleasant lifestyle in Southern California).

I do not know whether there are any cutesy nicknames for San Diego (Sandy? Sandee?), but I would avoid using it if there is one. I am not sure why we find such nick names so annoying, but a lot of people do.

Good luck.

After a successful conclusion to your quest for a dating scene, take a look at Vista. It has been named one of the top 50 places to raise a famiily in the US.

Should be easy. Lots of single men out here. The trend these days with men is never get married so I guess that is a benefit to single women.

dating in OC is a disaster... there are lot of single people but most are shallow, conceited and materialistic, showing off a lifestyle they cannot afford. If you're looking for someone genuine to start a relationship with look elsewhere because it's rare in OC and you may be looking for quite a long time!

My mother moved to South Orange County in '91 and made her good friends and met men, one eventually becoming her husband, through tennis. So, if you're already a tennis player, I think that's a sure-fire way to 1) meet people and 2) meet men.
Plus, I also think San Diego is better than Orange County, less of "keeping up with the Jones' sort of mentality" although there are plenty of wealthy people in San Diego/La Jolla too.

If you want to fit in you need to adopt the local look. Typically, this involves ample amounts of silicone and peroxide. Happy hunting!
